10 Creepy Children in Horror Movies

There are some things that can be put into a horror movie that will instantly make it creepier and one of those things is definitely a child. Now, I know that sometimes that can get cheesy or cliche, but when it works…it really works.

Michael Myers Halloween (1978)

The film opens with a point of view shot through the eyes of a young Michael Myers as he brutally stabs his sister to death. We are unaware, first of all that we are looking through the eyes of a child and second that the child is dressed up as a clown for Halloween until the film cuts to a shot of Myers in his costume staring blankly and holding a large blood soaked knife as the camera pans back farther and farther away. We don’t get to see much of the young version of Myers, with the film jumping ahead 15 years, but this short scene created one of the creepiest children ever on screen.

Karen Cooper Night Of The Living Dead (1968)

Considered by most to be the first ever adaptation of the zombie film as we’ve come to know it, night of the living dead brought us an incredibly frightening little girl. Karen Cooper is a young girl who is ill being kept in the cellar of the home where the main characters are seeking refuge from the zombie threat. When she dies from her illness and awakens as a zombie where her mother finds her eating the organs of her father. The little girl proceeds to psychotically stab her mother over and over again with a gardening tool found on the wall.

The Twins The Shining (1980)

The ghosts of these twin girls who were killed by their father with an ax after he went crazy aren’t necessarily evil or bad, they just want a playmate. But, their manner of speech, the random way they get closer and closer to us, and the quick flashes to them bloody on the floor of the hotel room would creep out any movie watcher, let alone poor little Danny Terrence who had to witness it all first hand.

Isaac Chroner Children Of The Corn (1984)

As if an evil cult leader wasn’t creepy enough, make him a child in charge of the other children of a small town who used the adults who pass through as sacrifices to please his god, Then add to that the boy, after supposedly dying, reanimating as some sort of demon boy who is taking revenge on the others who had tried to undermine his leadership. Something about the twisted vacant eyes of Isaac Chroner can make just about anyone never want to walk in a corn field. Luckily, that’s not an everyday option for most of us.

Toshio Saeki Ju-on: The Grudge (2002)

White skin, frail body, and eyes black as death; Toshio is the ghost of a young boy whose mother and cat were killed by his father in rage. He is taken to the afterlife and follows his beloved mother and helps her spread a grudge curse on anyone who steps foot in the house. And when he sitting at the edge of the bed or you hear his blood curdling meowing, your skin will certainly crawl every time.

Ragen MacNeil The Exorcist (1973)

One of the greatest horror films of all time features one of the creepiest children of all time, Ragen MacNeil. Demon possession turns this once sweet young girl into the very representation of Satan. Her mangled face, demonic voice, blasphemy, and violence will make anyone uncomfortable, but especially anyone who has a religious past. And the later added scene referred to as the crab walk, in which Ragen contorts her body in a back bend to crawl down the stairs is shockingly unnerving and helped revive the flick for horror fans in 2000.

Samara Morgan The Ring (2002)

The glare of tortured and troubled young girl who died in a well and now haunts a video tape killing the victims who watch it is terrifying. Her dead eyes stare through her stringy black hair almost directly into your very core and her murky, greyish skin is frightening and repulsive. Every time she is on screen even for a moment, your heart sinks and when she finally crawls out of the television, the fantastic special effect is overshadowed by the overwhelmingly creepiness of her.

Damien Thorn The Omen (1976)

Damien was born on the sixth day of the sixth month at six o’clock and bears the mark 666 on his body. He was born to a jackal who died when he was born and as an orphan was adopted by a couple whose child had been stillborn. They later find out that their child had been killed to ensure Damien’s arrival. Because his arrival is the arrival of theAntiChrist. This child is the pure embodiment of evil and is certainly portrayed that way in an incredibly eerie performance that will get you ever time.

Noah Wiseman The Babadook (2014)

Noah starts of troubled and strange, due to the death of his father. But, after a bedtime story about a creature begins taking over his mother, he gets creepier and creepier. He seems to have fear of the babadook, but also a strange understanding of this monstrous spirit. And when the film ends, he basically gives into his troubled personality and the babadook and is strangely content in a way that no one would ever want to be around.

Eli Let The Right One In (2008)

A young girl, or as she would say “i’m not a girl”, has a blood thirsty secret. She is a vampire who needs blood to live and lives in an apartment with an old man who tries to help her kill or procure blood in other manners. She doesn’t wish to kill, but when she does, especially in a scene where she rescues the boy in her life from a group of bullies, it is shocking and violent. But the creepiest thing is her basic actions and manner of speaking, her silent stares, and her blood lust so well portrayed often without saying a word.
