The of ABC’s stuffed us with quite a few cliff-hangers to digest. All we can do while awaiting Season 6 is to contemplate how to tie up these loose ends ourselves.
1. Who Will Win The Presidential Election?
With Republican nominee Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) running against Democrat Francisco Vargas (Ricardo Chavira), the election could go either way. Both candidates have selected perfect vice presidents: Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) and Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry) respectively.
The real people who seem to be in control of this election are Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), Cyrus Beene, and Rowan Pope (Joe Morton). They all possess the evil genius gene, so guessing who conquers above all is practically impossible. But one thing has been proven time and again: You can’t take Command. The only thing is, Olivia may have just done exactly that. Did she Command in the process?
2. Has Olivia Actually Become Command?
The final scene makes it seem as though has finally won in the battle against her father. Rowan has slowly influenced her into becoming the monster he’s always wanted her to be. She has always known how to take control of any situation, but since her kidnapping, she seems to have lost her grasp on boundaries.
We witnessed Ms. Pope go off the rails in Season 5, even murdering someone with a chair (in her defense, he really did deserve it). We no longer know what Olivia is capable of and that’s what makes the prospect of Season 6 so exciting. Could she take over an important role in the White House or maybe even sneak her way into the Oval?
3. Was Rowan Defeated Or Did He Conquer Instead?
The uneasy part in Scandal‘s season finale was Rowan’s satisfaction with the turn of events. It almost seems, once again, as if he’d planned it all. One would think he’d be angry that he was overthrown (or was he?)
It is hard to tell if the smile on his face was from a father’s pride that his daughter won, or if he was rejoicing in the fact that another one of his mysterious plans panned out exactly as he wanted it to.
4. What Will Happen Between Jake And Olivia?
One thing Olivia seems to have lost in the finale is Jake’s respect. He makes a point that he’s become her b*tch, and he doesn’t seem too happy about it. Mr. Ballard is no one to be messed with, but when it comes to Olivia things get a little more complicated.
Will he go along with Olivia’s plan? And if so, will he only do so to gain control of the Oval? Jake is not above killing Mellie to get what he wants. The problem is that he never seemed to want the White House. Will he revolt against Olivia’s plan and once again take over the role of Command? If so, will he take her Gladiators along for the ride?
5. What Will Happen To The Gladiators?
We’ve watched the Gladiators slowly slip out of Olivia’s fingers throughout Scandal‘s last season. They used to be able to trust her with their lives but they’ve definitely noticed that she’s gone off the deep end.
Will they continue to fight blindly in her defense or will even Huck have to admit that they might be fighting for the wrong side? Who knows were Huck’s loyalties will lay… Quinn will surely be the first to put a revolution in place as she seems to always be the first to call Olivia out. Well, her and Abby Whelan (Darby Stanchfield).
Abby may have to use her position in the White House against Olivia (again) in order to reunite with her former coworkers if they actually do take a stand. This might put her in a complicated position with Fitz, who recently reconciled with Liv.
Marcus would also have a conflict of interest if Mellie’s takedown is simultaneous with Olivia’s. The relationship has barely begun and we can already anticipate their issues. Yikes!
6. What Will Happen To Fitz?
Single, peaceful, and soon-to-be former President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) will have very little to occupy himself with. Will he even remain a main character in the show if his sole purpose in life is to write a memoir and raise his kids?
Come on, Fitz, you’re not that normal! He’ll most likely get sucked into other people’s drama or be the victim of some sort of attack. Perhaps his mission will be to bring Olivia back into the light. But will he succeed? We might even see an reunion. Say what you want, but that never gets old.
7. Will Susan Ross Visit The Dark Side?
Toward the finale, Susan Ross (Artemis Pebdani) made significant strides toward becoming the most independent version of herself. She dumped David Rosen (Joshua Malina), but it didn’t take long before he crawled back into Elizabeth North’s (Portia de Rossi) straddle.
With David and Elizabeth sneaking around again, it won’t be long before Susan discovers them. Once she puts the puzzle together that Liz was the woman he had been cheating on her with, who knows what may happen. Susan, along with Olivia, may very possibly experience a massive character shift to the dark side.
After withdrawing her candidacy from the presidential race, Susan won’t have much to do (besides simply being Vice President). She will have more than enough time to seek revenge on her ex and his lover. It could be fun to see Susan sharpen her claws.
8. Will Mellie And Marcus Last?
The end of Scandal‘s Season 5 was only the beginning of Marcus Walker (Cornelius Smith Jr.) and Mellie Grant’s romance. Not much has developed yet between the two, except for a whole lot of chemistry with a touch of sexual frustration. Their jobs are tough, guys, they’re both in serious need of some action.
An unlikely couple, but it’s one we may as well root for. After all, Mellie’s romantic history is rough as can be, she could use some love. Things might get complicated though with the election as they will surely have to sneak around. Could this new love affair cost her the race?
9. Will Tom Seek Revenge Or The Truth?
Tom Larson (Brian Letscher) and Cyrus were getting pretty serious in the finale. Then, out of nowhere, Mr. Beene blind-sighted his lover by getting back together with his ex Michael (Matthew Del Negro). While we should be happy that the couple is back together to raise Ella, something just isn’t adding up. We think Tom agrees.
When B6-13 Agent Larson saw Cyrus leave him for Michael, you could see it in his eyes that he knew something was fishy. He probably won’t rest until he gets to the bottom of it. If it all comes down to something as stupid as a publicity stunt for the campaign, Tom may just take a different route altogether and seek revenge on his traitor ex-boyfriend.
10. Who Will Take Over Cyrus Beene’s Role In Managing The Vargas Campaign?
Now that Cyrus Beene has promoted himself to potential vice president, someone will have to take over his spot as campaign manager. Surely, it won’t be Frankie’s brother, Alex Vargas (Danny Pino), because we all saw how that turned out. Could it be one of the Gladiators in an effort to overrule Olivia?
Another option is Command himself: Rowan Pope. No one ever knows what he is actually up to and we know that he wanted to gain control of the election in any way possible. Since he has lost Jake Ballard as his pawn, he may just play the part himself by taking over the reigns of this presidential race.
So many questions, so little answers (i.e. NO ANSWERS! NOT ONE!)… So we all need to just take a breath and relax until Scandal‘s Season 6 finally blesses us with its presence. I said relax already! Are you relaxed? Yeah, me neither. Hurry up Season 6! The wait is just a B6-13 kind of cruel. What would Olivia Pope do?
