There’s nothing quite like an action blockbuster to get our hearts pumping and our adrenaline levels rising through the roof. That’s why audiences all over the world are always on the lookout for the next action movie to dive right into.

So far, 2016 has been a huge year for the genre, with titles such as Deadpool, Independence Day: Resurgence, Triple 9, Gods of Egypt and Central Intelligence ruling the roost when it comes to all things action. However, with quite a while yet to go until 2017 hits, here are seven more upcoming action movies to look forward to in 2016.

1. Ben-Hur

Timur Bekmambetov’s historical epic will be the fourth adaptation of the 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ by Lew Wallace. Following on from two silent films at the beginning of the 21st century, and the Academy Award-winning 1959 adaptation, Hollywood’s most recent take will be its biggest and boldest to date.

The story surrounds nobleman Judah Ben-Hur, who is falsely accused of an assassination attempt by an adoptive brother. Years of slavery ensue, culminating in the ultimate revenge in the form of an epic chariot race following a series of encounters with Jesus of Nazareth.

Matt Damon’s collaboration with director Paul Greengrass continues to go from strength to strength. Hype surrounding Suicide Squad has been whirling above our heads for quite a few months now, with the certainly raising an eyebrow or two.

Thankfully for us, the release of DC’s next big-hitter is just around the corner. The film is set to feature a band of super-villains undertaking a series of high-risk missions for the US government in exchange for amnesty.

A myriad of notable Hollywood actors will star, including Margot Robbie (who apparently , FYI), Will Smith, Jared Leto, Ben Affleck and Cara Delevigne. Without a doubt, this is going to be utter mayhem at its best.

4. The Mechanic 2: Resurrection

Jason Statham is at it again in one of 2016’s upcoming action movies. And once again, it appears he’s got himself into a spot of trouble with some bad guys in this follow-up to the 2011 thriller The Mechanic. As character Arthur Bishop, he has to make a deadly return to his former murderous past when the love of his life is tragically kidnapped.

5. The Magnificent Seven

Director Antoine Fuqua is jumping right into the deep end with a bold adaptation of 1960s Western The Magnificent Seven. In this modern vision, a town suffering from an onslaught of industrialists turns to seven outlaws to protect them. The band is being led by Denzel Washington as Sam Chisolm, who is starring alongside Hollywood babes Chris Pratt, Matt Bomer and Ethan Hawke, so you know it’s going to be good.

6. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back

Next up for Tom Cruise is Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, brought to us by director Edward Zwick. Set four years after the last movie, it sees our main protagonist returning to his old military unit, only to be accused of homicide. Not ideal.

7. Assassin’s Creed
