In the realm of superheroes, (Natasha Romanova) is one of the most eligible bachelorettes. The Russian spy is highly intelligent, beautiful, and knows how to roundhouse kick someone in the face. These are all attractive qualities, I’m sure you’ll agree.
Played by Scarlett Johansson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the skilled assassin has had a and flirted with the prospect of . Unfortunately, neither of these relationships really took off.
However, if we turn to the comics, Black Widow’s sex life is an altogether different beast, having dated a number of the most well-known characters in the Marvel Universe.
But who exactly has Black Widow courted? Let’s check out her love interests below:
1. Red Guardian/Alexi Shostakov
Romanova’s first foray into relationships sounds quite traumatic. She was paired with her husband, Shostakov, by the KGB, who were keeping the talented pilot under their close surveillance.
Years into their marriage, the KGB faked Shostakov’s death in an effort to remove any attachment from Romanova’s social life, assumedly so she would plunge deeper into the service and become an emotional black hole.
The planned pseudocide was arranged so that Shostakov could be fully consumed by the agency and become the superhero alias for the Red Guardian.
2. Hawkeye/Clint Barton
Black Widow first met Clint during training, and the pair hit it off so well one of the leading reasons she defected to the US was due to her love for the archer. The pair even teamed up to attack Iron Man.
Hawkeye was so infatuated, he proposed marriage, but was ultimately left heartbroken when Natasha turned him down, instead opting to live a life of solo vigilante altruism.
3. Daredevil/Matt Murdock
Perhaps one of her more interesting relationships, a mutual fondness grew between Black Widow and Daredevil, who were teamed together in Daredevil #81–124. Together, the pair fought against the likes of The Owl, Gladiator, Electro and Purple Man.
Matt Murdock split up with Karen Page in order to maintain a relationship with Natasha. However, the relationship eventually came to a halt as Natasha again felt uncomfortable as a sidekick, instead choosing to operate alone.
4. The Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes
Despite her flirtations with Steve Rogers on the big screen, in the comics Black Widow’s most meaningful relationship is with his best buddy, Bucky Barnes. Barnes’s alter ego, The Winter Soldier, was an instructor at the Black Widow program where Natasha was trained.
In the Civil War story arc, Bucky replaces Steve as Captain America, thanks to persuasion from Stark, and he and Natasha reignite their relationship.
5. Iron Man/Tony Stark
We’ll save the best until last, because Natasha’s relationship with Iron Man produced on of the , occurring in the Ultimate universe of Earth-1610 (Ultimate).
In that plot, the pair develop a romantic relationship, and eventually get engaged. The billionaire playboy becomes besotted with Natasha, going so far as to construct her a customized Iron Man suit.
But that’s nothing. Things reach a bizarre climax when a sex tape of the two impassioned superheroes leaks all over the internet, resulting in embarrassment for the two lovers and thrusts the Avengers under scrutiny.
