There’s a slight hitch in Universal’s upcoming Pitch Perfect 3. Today Variety broke the news that the third installment of the musical comedy series Pitch Perfect has lost its director, Elizabeth Banks.
According to their sources, Banks — who acted as star and producer of the first film and additionally as the director for the second — isn’t sitting out due to any specific titles, but her schedule is becoming increasingly packed. Elizabeth Banks is currently filming Lionsgate’s new Power Rangers reboot as the main antagonist Rita Replusa.
While Elizabeth Banks will no longer stand at the helm of the film, the split was reportedly amicable. Banks will still stay on as a producer and continue to play the eccentric ICCAs commentator Gail.
Also announced to reprise their roles are stars Anna Kendrick, Hailee Steinfeld, Elizabeth Banks, Rebel Wilson, and Brittany Snow. The movie will be penned by Pitch Perfect screenwriter Kay Cannon.
The release date for Pitch Perfect 3 has been postponed from July 21 of next year to December 22, 2017.
