If you’re a fan of the Marvel Universe, you know by now that ABC’s Agent Carter has been cancelled after its second season. However, you also probably know that fans have been avid about the show continuing, calling for it to get picked up by Netflix. What you may not have known, was that Agent Carter herself, Hayley Atwell, is all for the show moving to the popular streaming service.
Atwell appeared with co-star Dominic Cooper, who plays Howard Stark, at Wizard World in Philadelphia and spoke about the potential for the show to continue.
“I love doing Peggy Carter and Marvel is still so supportive of the series,” Atwell said. “So maybe it will go somewhere else and we’ll have more of her.”
Fans were very excited to hear Atwell’s interest in continuing to portray the founding member of S.H.I.E.L.D. and carry out her story to its fullest extent. In fact, when some fans asked about where the show left off and what happened to Peggy between the shows end and where the MCU films picked up, Atwell had a simple answer.
“I think that’s why we need a season three,” Atwell said.
There is certainly a great deal of story left to be told for Agent Carter and a lot of people want to see that story unfold. Whether it’s on Netflix or some other source, Atwell’s confidence absolutely made some fans feel a bit more easy about the recent cancellation. However, Atwell isn’t going to limit herself in the meantime. She also expressed interest in another show.
Cooper currently stars on AMC’s Preacher, another comic book based show, and the topic did come up during the panel.
“I think I should be on Preacher,” Atwell said.
The statement was completely unprovoked and drew quite a positive reaction from the crowd. When the cheers settled, Cooper’s response showed that the fans weren’t the only ones excited by the declaration.
“Oh yeah,” Cooper said. “I have the perfect character for you too.”
Cooper went on to explain that his much darker role on the show was completely different from his previous role and that he would like to continue to portray a wide array of characters, Atwell expressed her admiration for his work on the show, stating that he was “brilliant.” However, when asked by Cooper if she had seen the show, her response gave the audience a laugh.
“I’ve seen the trailer,” Atwell joked.
Perhaps that cooled any excitement for Atwell joining the show anytime soon, but with the two actors sharing so much work history and appearing to be good friends, I wouldn’t rule out an appearance at some point down the road.
Until then though, Atwell will be appearing on ABC’s new series Conviction, which is set to premier later this year. Hopefully, we’ll be seeing more of her in a more familiar role soon as well.
