‘American Gods’ Casts Actual Goddess Gillian Anderson

Starz’s upcoming adaptation of the Neil Gaiman novel American Gods has been joined by a new cast member — none other than The X-Files‘ own Dana Scully, Gillian Anderson.

Anderson joins the show in the role of Media, who acts as the public face of the New Gods, spinning stories and thriving off the public’s worship. Anderson is the latest addition to the series, joining co-stars Ian McShane and Ricky Whittle.

American Gods is a tale of Old Gods versus the New — mythological beings versus the gods of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs.

This will mark Anderson’s second collaboration with American Gods showrunner Bryan Fuller, the pair having previously worked together on NBC’s glorious but short-lived Hannibal. David Slade will direct the pilot. Not coincidentally, he also directed the pilot for Hannibal.

American Gods is due for release in 2017.
