‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ Is Coming To Theaters — But For One Night Only

Since the 1960s, DC has released ten different cinematic takes of Batman. From Tim Burton’s wonderfully campy version of Batman in 1989 to Zack Snyder’s dark adaptation Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice this year, there’s never been a shortage of the caped crusader on the silver screen.

However, DC fans have been asking for the iconic storyline of Batman: The Killing Joke to finally get the feature-length treatment practically since Alan Moore’s graphic novel was first released in 1988.

In 2011, the spark was reignited after Mark Hamill stated at SDCC that he would voice The Joker in an adaptation of The Killing Joke. Then in 2015, it was confirmed that fans wishes were finally coming to fruition with Sam Liu and Bruce Timm on board to direct the R-rated project.

The Blu-ray copy of Batman: The Killing Joke will be available to own starting August 2, but real die hard fans might be able to watch it in theaters early in a nationwide release. Unfortunately there’s one small catch: It will be playing for one night only.

On Monday, July 25 theaters will screen the dark story at 7:30 pm and 10:00 pm local time. Tickets will be available for purchase on June 17 on , so be sure to mark your calendars. In addition to the screening, the event will include:

“… a special introduction from Mark Hamill plus a never-before-seen documentary about how Hamill was cast in this project and what the role means to him as an actor and a fan. The event will conclude with a special behind-the-scenes look at how the Joker’s memorable, yet disturbing song and dance number was recreated for the film.”

Batman: The Killing Joke stars Hamill as the Joker, Kevin Conroy as Batman, Tara Strong as Barbara Gordon, and Ray Wise as Commissioner Gordon.
