BBC America Announces Fate of ‘Orphan Black’: The Answer May Shock You

After weeks of speculation, BBC America has finally revealed the fate of their hit cult series, Orphan Black. The show, which stars Tatiana Maslany, aired its gut-wrenching pilot in 2013 and has since become one of the most celebrated and beloved shows on TV. Which makes this announcement, even with its glimmer of a silver lining, all that much harder to write.

Take a deep breath, super fans. It appears now, that after four temtpestuous, mesmorizing and heartbreaking seasons, Orphan Black has been renewed. But for a fifth and final season.

The announcement came from co-creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson (pictured above), who with love and adoration for the fans and their own love of the show, stated,

“We are excited to deliver an epic conclusion to the tale of Sarah and her clone sisters. The past four seasons have been a phenomenal adventure and we are eternally grateful to our loyal fans who have loved the twists and thrills of our weird little show. We are thankful to our partners at Temple Street, and to BBC America and Space for their support and giving us the opportunity to end on a high.”

Orphan Black, the show that arguably helped put BBC America on the Emmy’s most watched list, will take its final bow with no less than the jaw-dropping drama, the unexpected hilarity, and the tear-jerking tender moments fans have come to expect from the series since the first bow out of season one. The show’s undying legacy, led by the incredible Tatiana Maslany, can never truly be committed to a single performer. Without the likes of Jordan Gavaris (Felix), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Mrs. S), Evelyne Brochu (Delphine), and Skyler Wexler (Kira), we wouldn’t have had the same exciting and enticing experience the show – besting all others in time slot and genre – has gifted us for the past four years.

BBC America president, Sarah Barnett spoke very highly of the show after the announcement of its impending end, along with incredibly high praises for the show’s main star, Tatiana Maslany.

“’Orphan Black’ is a thrilling, genre-bending ride that has captured our fans’ imaginations and hearts like no other show. Our genius team of actors, writers and producers have, time after time, taken us to a place of awe, delight and utter shock and surprise. Tatiana has been and continues to be a complete revelation, hers is one of the most remarkable performances on television, and she is joined by an extraordinary cast. We can’t wait to take our incredibly passionate audience on one final gobsmacking clone adventure.”

Maslany, who received an Emmy-nomination for her performance(s) during last year’s ceremony (where she was undoubtedly robbed of the award), has also been nominated for both a Peoples Choice Award and Golden Globe in 2014.
