A while back, it was revealed that Star Lord himself, Chris Pratt would be a part of Avengers: Infinity Wars. But it was unclear whether any of the other members of his gang (Guardians of The Galaxy), such as Vin Diesel’s Groot, Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon, Dave Bautista’s Drax The Destroyer or Zoe Saldana’s Gamora would be joining Star Lord for the Avengers’ third outing. In an interview with The Verge, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the writers of Avengers: Infinity Wars may have hinted that Rocket Raccoon will be joining forces with The Avengers, along with Star Lord to fight against Thanos in the movie.
The interviewer asked the two writers, who also were on writing duties for recently released Captain America: Civil War,
You said the magic word there, grounded. You’ve done a very good job in making these superhero movies feel like they’re part of a recognizable reality. But as you said, there’s a big purple space guy coming in the next two movies. How do you make that work, tonally?
Stephen McFeely replied to the question by saying,
We’ll try to split the difference. We certainly don’t want to try to betray the Jim Starlin Thanos, all those comic runs. They get pretty trippy. That’s in the DNA of it. But before we get there, you’ll see Guardians 2, you’ll see Doctor Strange. My hope is that the movie audience will be a little bit more prepared for some trippier stuff.
But Christopher Markus went on and spilt some beans by saying,
Also, whether they’re a 12-foot purple guy, or a raccoon, or an android, they’re all people, and we’re going to write them as people. You can’t write them any other way. So, ideally it will stay grounded because you’ll completely understand why the characters are doing what they’re doing, and you will in some way or another empathize.
While the “12-foot purple guy” and the “android” are clearly Thanos and Vision and it comes as no surprise that those two characters would be a part of Avengers: Infinity Wars, the mention of “a raccoon” raised a few eyebrows. Well, there’s only one raccoon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe right now and it seems like he’ll show up when Avengers: Infinity Wars Part I and Part II hit theatres. If both Star Lord and Rocket Raccoon are a part of the movie, the rest of Team Guardians is likely to show up. We will just have to wait to get an official confirmation. Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to hit theatres on May 5th, 2017. And after that, “Star Lord and Rocket Raccoon will return” in Avengers: Infinity Wars Part 1 hits theatres on May 4th, 2014.Honestly, I can’t wait to see Iron Man, Captain America and the rest of the Avengers’ reaction when they see a walking and talking raccoon in their midst.
