The television show may have gone off the air way back in 2003, but Dark Horse Comics have made sure Buffy: The Vampire Slayer has stayed in the forefront of nerd culture. Although, it’s not hard with and some of !
In 2007 and officially part of the Buffyverse canon, the company released the eighth season, continuing the adventures of Buffy Summers and the Scooby Gang as we left them at the end of the show but this time in comic book form.
Previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer: writers Joss Whedon and Jane Espenson returned to write some stories; we’ve seen the gang travel to Scotland before making a home in San Francisco; and we’ve even seen appearances by Buffy alums like Harmony, Amy, Warren, Riley and even ! There’s been time travel, a giant Dawn, space adventures, the destruction of magic and even a new breed of vampires.
Now, Dark Horse have announced that they will return with Season 11 with Christos Gage returning to pen the comics along with artist, Rebekah Isaacs, both of whom worked on Season 10. Joss Whedon will return in an executive producer role and oversee the books, as he has since their creation.
The eleventh season will see the Scoobies in San Francisco, fighting the supernatural forces and saving the world from the apocalypse … again!
Christos Gage tells USA Today about the new season as well as talking about the returning favourite and new characters we may be seeing.
“Previous apocalypses have been of the world-ending variety, and they’ve tended to threaten toward the end of a season. This one kicks off Season 11, and it’s not quite world-ending — more world-changing. It’s the way the world changes that will provide new challenges for Buffy and the Scoobies, of a kind they’ve never faced before.”
“We’ll be introducing some new characters, including a Slayer named Morgan — is she ally, or enemy, or both? But old favorites like Harmony will still be popping up here and there. Andrew isn’t around much this time, but will show himself to be probably the smartest of the bunch. As Joss described one of his goals for this season: ‘Raise the … wait for it … stakes.’ We’re ramping up the intensity, and we want to really see how it affects these people we care about so much.”
But that’s not all!
