‘Captain America: Civil War’: Find Out Why A Pivotal Fight Scene Was Cut

Spoiler Warning… So if you haven’t already, go out and see Captain America: Civil War NOW!Once upon a time, superheroes only fought moustache-twiddling villains, but those days are long since past. Why should the likes of Iron Man and Captain America waste time battling the forces of evil when they can beat the crap out of each other instead?

Doesn't seem like a waste of time, no siree.

Captain America: Civil War opened to unanimously positive reviews this month, with particularly strong praise given to the films exploration of tough, thought-provoking themes that stemmed from the central conflict. However, the highlight of Captain America: Civil War is undoubtedly the climactic airport fight, where Team Cap and Team Iron Man collide in an epic battle of biblical proportions.
Fan boys like myself geeked out hard at the chance to finally see the Avengers face off against each other one-on-one; Captain America VS Iron Man, Black Panther VS Winter Soldier, even Ant-Man VS Spider-Man, but unfortunately, one particularly important fight scene didn’t make the final cut —

In an interview with Fandango, the Civil War screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealed that;

There was a good fight between Captain America and Black Widow that we lost mainly due to time.

It’s a shame that this brawl wasn’t included in the final version of the movie, particularly as the two characters share a unique dynamic within the franchise, but at 147 minutes, Captain America: Civil War is already the longest Marvel film released to date and so, inevitably, cuts needed to be made.

It's ok Steve. Civil War is still great.

It might seem strange that a conflict between two particularly important characters was left on the cutting room floor, but Markus and McFeely felt that the relationship between Captain America and Black Widow had already been addressed in other parts of the film, adding that;

[Cap and Black Widow] clearly have a deep relationship even though they’re clearly on opposite sides, and you never know how many times you need to hit that over the course of the movie. I think it works without this fight, but we certainly didn’t know if it would.

As disappointing as this is, the decision to remove the brawl between Captain America and Black Widow makes total sense, but one question remains — Who won the fight?

Hmmmmm.

Hmmmmm.

Well, Markus and McFeely do have an answer, but it may not be one that everyone likes.

“I guess Cap did. Let’s just say he got away in the moment, how about that?”

That’s probably not what Black Widow fans wanted to hear, but it’s not all been bad news for the Russian spy this week, as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently confirmed that a solo Black Widow film is now in the works. However, this does raise another question; namely, how does Cap actually defeat the Black Widow? Hopefully, this will be revealed in due time, possibly on the Blu-ray release of Captain America: Civil War, but for now, we want to know what you think.Who Should Win In A Fight Between Captain America And Black Widow?
