Celebrating Best Friend Day: The 10 Greatest On Screen Friendships

Friendships are are strange things, wouldn’t you agree? From the billions of people that make up the world “you pick a human and you’re like ‘Yep, I like this one’ and you just do stuff with them.” And I couldn’t agree with you more, Bill Murray. From the billions of people that make up this world we pick one, maybe two, people who we just meet by circumstance and have crazy adventures with. This is true both in real-life and on screen. So, in celebration of best friend day I’ve made a list of 10 of the greatest friendships ever to stroll across our screens.

1) The Doctor and Donna

After 50 human years you’d expect that the Doctor would have quite the collection of bizarre and fantastical friends. We usually call them companions and they sort-of come with the job. But, from all the companions to ever cross the Doctor’s, path Donna was one of HIS truest and greatest friends. Donna and the Doctor travelled across time and space seeking adventure and leaving snarky commentS wherever the TARDIS took them.

2) Leonard and Sheldon

Friendships are built on a lot of things and patience is one of the most fundamental virtues one must have, especially since certain friends can be kind of trying. Leonard Hofstadter could teach us a thing or two about that after living with Sheldon Cooper for all these years. But, let’s face it, they’re best friends and they love each other and what’s a fella to do but keep away from Sheldon’s spot?

3) Golden Girls

Friendship isn’t defined by age either. Although Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia may not be the youngest people on this list they are proof that a true friendship can withstand the tabulations of time, no matter how rough that may be. The Golden Girls will live on, no matter what time throws their way.

4) Nick and Judy

Friends may even come form the most unlikely of places, or species. Enemies by nature, a fox and a rabbit would be quite the unlikely pair. Well Judy and Nick are proof you are wrong there. fighting against there respective predator and prey stereotypes they build one of the most adorable and unique friendships to ever be conceived by Disney (and if you save the whole of Zootopia while your at it is a plus too.)

5) Laurel and Hardy

This comical duo stole the spot-light in the 1920s and this is what all friendships strive to be. There is no Hardy without Laurel and no Laurel without Hardy. They are two peas from the same goofy pod and the world will always love them.

6) Buffy and the Scoobies

Surviving high school during the day and killing vampires by night, Buffy and the Scoobies are proof that even in the most trying of times ( an apocalypse or two) a real friendship will live on. Yes, they may have had their fights and disagreements but, no matter what was going on between them, they stood by each other till the very end.

7) Sherlock and Watson

Sherlock and Watson have been a crime defying team since about 1887 and over the years, with each new adaptation, their friendship becomes even more entertaining to watch. You try having to deal with a high functioning sociopath on a daily basis, if that isn’t friendship then i don’t know what is.

8) The Winchesters, Castiel and Crowley

The winchesters and co have everted quite a number of apocalypses back in the day, albeit being the cause of some as well. Having friends both from heaven and from hell, this is what i’d call a the worlds greatest dream team, if one of them would stop trying to kill the others that is (yes, we are looking at you Crowley). Having triggered the end of days more then once this team is proof that friends will delve even into the depths of hell to bring you back

9) Joey and Chandler

Well the show is called Friends so what do you think it’s all about? But from all the iconic characters ever created for this series Joey and Chandler really do set the bar. Must I really elaborate? From baby chicks to sarcastic comments, the picture above explains Joey and Chandler’s friendship better then any words ever could.
