Cinematic Vampires Who Are More Powerful Than We Think

There are hundreds, maybe even thousands of vampires in the world of Cinema. Many are very powerful. Some not so powerful. I’ve decided to take a few from some of my favorite vampire films and talk about why they are some of the most powerful creatures ever to rule the night. Keep in mind, they are all from different cinematic universes, so each has there own set of rules that define their power. And no, there won’t be any Twilight talk here.. lolUnderworld: Evolution (2006)

Selene

Selene

Selene was born around the 14th century. She was told by her vampire coven leader, Viktor, that her family was murdered by a clan of Lycan’s (werewolves). She later finds that Viktor himself was the one responsible for the death of her family. In ‘Underworld: Evolution,’ Selene finds herself involved in an unfathomable conflict with the first of the Vampire race (Marcus) and the first of the Werewolf race (William). In the dying breath of their father, Alexander Corvinus, the first immortal. He tells Selene by drinking his blood, it will make her “the future” and is her only hope of being strong enough to destroy the Corvinus brothers. Throughout the film, we know Selene has become very powerful. But we are never given the full scope of her abilities. The only symbolism is her eye color changes and enhanced strength when she is accessing the powers given to her by Alexander. The Lost Boys (1987)

I know Michael seems as though he doesn’t belong on this list, but let’s just take a look at a couple variables anyway. Michael is the eldest son of recently divorced Lucy Emerson. Lucy and her two sons move to a coastal community in Santa Carla, California to live with their grandfather. Michael befriends a clan of vampires lead by David, a 1980’s rebel dirt bike riding wild-man, who hunts down teenagers with his gang, on the boardwalk at night, for their blood. Michael is later tricked into drinking David’s blood. Which throughout the film begins to transform him into a “bloodsucker.” Later in the film Michael and his brother are forced to take on David and his gang, with the help of Edgar Frog played by Corey Feldman.Michael only fully transforms into a vampire when he is forced to defend his family at the end of the film. With that being said, he is able to battle David who has been a vampire for ages, in hand to hand combat and ends up victorious. This tells me that Michael would have become a very powerful vampire if given the opportunity to explore the true nature of his new found powers. Interview With a Vampire (1994)

Lestat

Lestat

Lestat De Lioncourt is by far one of the most fascinating on this list. Based on the Vampire Chronicles written by Anne Rice, Lestat was born into wealth in 1760. He hated his family and often dreamt of killing them one by one. Lestat tried to run away from home many times, only to be returned to his family. Lestat later moves to Paris to pursue acting and attracts the attention of an ancient vampire named Magnus who kidnaps and transforms Lestat into a vampire. One of the great things the Vampire chronicles did, was give a down to earth intricate depiction on how vampires operate. For instance, vampires are unable to have sex.. (OUCH) also they receive a high from blood that is better than intimacy to them. In other words, they don’t actually care about sex, rather companionship. One of the greatest things about the Chronicles is that it is made clear, the older the vampire, the more powerful. New vampires aren’t even able to achieve flight. And when they do, it is painful to them. Lestat leads many lives over the centuries from hunter to actor, to rockstar, to author. But in the Anne Rice novels, it is always made clear that Lestat is one of the most powerful Vampires in existence. Bram Stoker’s: Dracula (1992)

Count Dracula

Count Dracula

‘Bram Stokers: Dracula’ is by far one of the most definitive vampire films ever made. It tells the story of Vlad The Impaler, who returns from war to find his beloved wife has committed suicide after receiving false news of his death. Vlad, in a fit of anger, renounces his faith and vows to avenge his love with all the powers of darkness. He then stabs a cross with his blade and drinks the blood that pours from it. He is forever plunged into eternal damnation. Dracula displays a wide array of powers throughout the film. He has the ability of mind control over humans. He also has the ability to shape-shift into different creatures and control creatures. We also know that based on his origins, Vlad the Impaler is one of the most feared warriors to ever grace the battlefield. His only true weakness seems to be that of his love for Mina. And the loneliness of immortality. Who are some of your favorite vampires? Let me know in the comments!Follow Us: BCactionMR.com, Facebook, Twitter
