When it comes to the DCEU, Warner Bros. is not fucking around.
Things may have got off to a rocky start with Batman v Superman, but today he studio used its marathon Comic-Con panel to introduce clips from Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad and, of course, Justice League Part One.
The Justice League is shaping up to be the focal point of everything in the DCEU and comparisons with Marvel’s Avengers are inevitable, so this film seriously needs to work as both the glue of the universe and a super-fun standalone adventure. And sure, it’s early days, but this exclusive sizzle reel previewed at SDCC today suggests DC has hit both of those marks, and done in it style.
The best line? “So I hear you can talk to fish.” No, really.
People have been critical of the lack of humor in Zack Snyder’s movies, but this clip suggests Justice League will fix the tonal problems of BvS while adopting some of the goofy wit of Suicide Squad.
And can we just take a minute to talk about the Flash? Because Ezra Miller is killing it in the role many fans of The CW’s TV show were convinced should have gone to Grant Gustin. I imagine that outrage will disappear pretty quickly when we see more of Miller doing his thing. This is a more confident (maybe more arrogant) take on the Scarlet Speedster for sure, but that differentiation has to be a good thing.
Filming only wrapped on Part One recently, so it’ll probably be October or November before we get a proper, full-length trailer — until then, though, this clip is bringing the hype. Justice League hits theaters November 17, 2017.
