Did Amy Schumer Just Set A Goldie Hawn Comeback In Motion?

It’s been 15 long years since Goldie Hawn took her final bow on the silver screen. Her last film, 2002’s The Banger Sisters, saw her starring alongside Susan Sarandon in a dramedy that none believed would be the legendary comedic actress’ final foray into feature films. She did briefly return to audiences, albeit on TV, for a guest role as elderly criminal Peggy McGee on the Disney animated sitcom, Phineas and Ferb in 2013. However, is all of that about to change thanks to the tireless efforts of Amy Schumer?

Kind Of A Rough Go, At First

Most people – and studios – would’ve taken Hawn’s seeming retirement as a definitive “I’m out of the biz, leave me alone.” But not superstar comedian Amy Schumer. The actress took it as a personal challenge to bring the Oscar winner out of her premature retirement for one more triumphant and hilarious hurrah for an upcoming but as-yet-untitled film that Schumer has penned with her sister and Katie Dippold. And although it may have seemed impossible to some, Schumer’s persistence did ultimately pay off in the end.

Initially, it proved to be quite the challenge even for Schumer as Goldie Hawn had never even heard of the Trainwreck star. Speaking to , Schumer recalled her first incredibly awkward encounter with Hawn aboard an airplane.

“I met her a couple of years ago and told her there’s a movie I really want to make with her. And she was very nice. “OK, honey.” She probably thought I was a psycho. “OK, crazy person.” Then I’d meet her at different things, saying, “We’re making this movie together,” and I think, eventually, some people got in her ear and told her I wasn’t crazy, that I make things.

The film is written by Schumer alongside her sister Kim and Ghostbusters scribe, Katie Dippold. Schumer opened up a little about the premise of the new feature and revealed a slight tidbit about who Hawn will be playing. According to Schumer, Hawn will be playing her mother in the film. Schumer’s character is meant to go on a trip to South America with her boyfriend, but he breaks up with her last minute. Instead, her mom accompanies her because Schumer’s character doesn’t want to go (and drink) alone.

Could This Be The Beginning Of A Goldie Hawn Comeback?

Along with this mother/daughter comedy, Diane Keaton and Bette Midler for a new Netflix original movie called Divanation. The film will see the trio star as former members of a famous pop group forced to reunite after a nasty split and 30 year estrangement. Not too different from the opening premise of First Wives Club. Let’s hope it’s as equally hilarious.

While the Netflix film still has yet to announce a production start or release date, the Amy Schumer comedy already has its eyes set on a May 17, 2017 debut. I can’t wait to see these two lovely ladies in action, especially considering how big a fan I am of Goldie Hawn and how I’ve missed her since she left us in 2002. With the upcoming Netflix show, and now with the team-up with Schumer, it seems like Hawn might be back in action, especially since her role in the latter will be significant.

Though she wrote and will star alongside Hawn in the film, Schumer clarified that it’s definitely more of a starring vehicle for her legendary co-star, an actress she has admired since childhood.

“It’s a Goldie Hawn movie and she’s gorgeous. Goldie … Hawn! I don’t remember the first time I didn’t love her!”
