Did the ‘Finding Dory’ Trailer Reveal Pixar’s First Lesbian Couple? by Matt Kranis , May 25th, 2016 at 11:22am Share on Facebook Share to TwitterA new trailer for Finding Dory dropped yesterday, and while there were plenty of Easter Eggs hidden in the trailer fans are picking up on one that may have been more hidden. The Internet is abuzz with speculation that the trailer features the first lesbian couple in a Pixar film, though only for a couple seconds. One scene in the trailer shows new character Hank, an octopus, winding up in a baby carriage at the California Marine Biology Institute. The carriage appears to belong to a lesbian couple at the aquarium with their daughter. There’s no official word on whether or not the pair in question is a lesbian couple, though it appears to be within the realm of possibility.Fans Think Representation MattersMost importantly, the new rumor shows how hungry fans are for LGBT representation in any form. The Finding Dory trailer comes after grassroots social media campaigns to give Captain America a boyfriend and give Elsa from Frozen a girlfriend , showing how much fans want queer characters on the big screen. The potential pair in Finding Dory are likely very minor characters, but representation matters, and showing a lesbian couple in a Pixar movie would be another step towards a more inclusive entertainment industry.Finding Dory arrives in theaters on June 17. Do you think there’s a lesbian couple in the movie? Is LGBT representation important in animated films? Let us know in the comments.
