Don’t Drop Your Poké Balls But We Might Be Getting A Live-Action Pokémon Film

and $9 billion jump in stock price for Nintendo, the Poké-mania continues with reports that Legendary Pictures is trying to secure the rights to make a live-action Pokémon film!

Deadline sources reveal that no deal has been closed yet, but apparently it all looks very promising and, given the current boom the franchise is experiencing, it all seems to fit.

Pokémon has received the big screen treatment before, releasing its first film, Pokémon: The First Movie, in 1998. Since then one Pokémon film per year has been releases for a total of 19 films! However these films are all animated, so a live-action movie would be a first.

This is not the first time rumors of a live-action Pokémon movie have surfaced, with whispers a few months ago that Max Landis (who wrote the upcoming Power Rangers reboot) would be working on the script for a film. though news on that front soon went quiet. Since then the media company has seen the release of Warcraft, a movie based on the popular video game, which had huge success, particularly in Chinese markets.

At the moment it’s unclear whether any movies arising out of the deal would be based on the game Pokémon Go, which has people using their phones to locate Pokémon in the real world, or simply the concept of Pokémon. However given the currently popularity of movies based on apps, it would certainly be a possibility.

Would you watch a live-action Pokémon movie?
