Disney for its upcoming remake of Pete’s Dragon yesterday, teasing a look at the film’s eponymous dragon. We suspected more footage of the creature would follow, and the latest trailer for the film has proved our suspicions true.
Disney dropped its official US trailer for Pete’s Dragon this morning, introducing audiences to in all his glory while also providing a closer look at the beast’s human co-stars.
As Disney’s official synopsis reads:
For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon.
Pete and Elliott take center stage in this trailer, which shows off the boy’s relationship with the gigantic furry creature. Elliott is more like a pet than a monster, romping through the woods with his human companion and caring for him during his time in the wilderness. But the duo will be challenged once Elliott’s existence is discovered, mainly by Karl Urban as a lumberjack who leads the charge against the dragon.
As the new trailer and the film’s have shown, the reimagined Pete’s Dragon is swapping out the lighthearted musical style of the original for more of a family adventure feel. There looks to be a healthy mix of action, adventure and drama in the new film, all wrapped in a story that both kids and adults should be able to appreciate.
Pete’s Dragon hits theaters on August 12. Are you excited for Disney’s latest remake? Let us know in the comments.
