High school can be pretty tough, but who would have guessed it’d be just as difficult for the teachers as it is for the students? Vice Principals, the latest comedy series from and , takes a look at high school from the faculty’s point of view. The comedy series follows a pair of scheming vice principals (McBride and Walton Goggins) as they try to rise to the rank of principal, by any means necessary.
The series is a follow-up of sorts to McBride and Hill’s previous HBO hit, and looks to maintain the duo’s signature blend of grounded and absurd humor. To get an inside scoop on the show, Movie Pilot went live with McBride and Hill at San Diego Comic-Con 2016.
The co-creators have been working with each other for years, first forming a bond at film school, then testing their skills with The Foot Fist Way — their debut feature that played at the Sundance Film Festival back in 2006. Vice Principals was originally intended to be their feature film follow-up to The Foot Fist Way, but the pair felt that a 90-minute runtime just wasn’t enough for the story. After wrapping up Eastbound & Down in 2013, the duo decided to revisit Vice Principals and expand the concept for an HBO series. We talked to the duo about their favorite films, comedic influences and the future of Vice Principals, and you can see it all in our exclusive video above.
