Fan Theory: 24 Reasons Why ‘X-Men’ and ‘Nightmare On Elm Street 3’ Are Essentially The Same Movie

Some of the best films ever released can be twinned with eerily similar movies that were developed by different studios, yet share many of the same themes or plot threads.

Classic examples include Finding Nemo and Shark Tale or Saving Private Ryan and The Thin Red Line, but now YouTube user CouchTomato argues that we can add X-Men and the classic sequel Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors to the list.

On the surface, this comparison sounds absolutely ridiculous. How many things could Bryan Singer’s groundbreaking superhero movie and a Freddy Krueger sequel possibly have in common with one another?

According to CouchTomato’s video, the two movies share exactly 24 things in common, despite being released thirteen years apart by different filmmakers who drew upon wildly different source material.

I know what you’re thinking, but the craziest thing about this clip is that it actually sort of makes sense. From gifted children and clawed attacks to shapeshifting adversaries and girls with white hair, both X-Men and Dream Warriors films are far more similar than one could imagine.

How CouchTomato first thought to compare the two films is beyond us, but what we do know is that Bryan Singer should think about calling his lawyers ASAP to avoid some serious copyright issues — Well, maybe not, but you’ve come this far. Watch the clip and judge for yourself.

At least Singer avoided turning one of the X-Men into a cockroach for his superhero debut. It was a struggle, but we’ve finally managed to find the one thing that’s different between the two films.

What other similarities have you spotted between the X-Men and Nightmare On Elm Street franchises?
