Like all good things in the world, Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise is coming to an end. With the final installment, Transformers: The Last Knight, less than a year away, we’re getting all warm and fuzzy thinking about how far our favorite robots in disguise have come.
In the last few weeks, Bay has been teasing fans by releasing images of characters old and new. While some characters look virtually the same, others have received some interesting redesigns.
Check out the evolution of the Transformers characters, from their earlier comic book and animated iterations to the newest images, below:
In the last image it’s clear that Optimus Prime has seen better days. With the inclusion of popular animated character Hot Rod — who is dubbed Rodimus Prime by the Matrix of Leadership following Optimus Prime’s death — some fans are speculating that The Last Knight will feature his downfall.
Talk about a throwback! Bumblebee has come a long, long way from his 1980s appearance. But in regards to the movies, not much has changed since Transformers came out back in 2007.
The first full-body shot of Megatron in The Last Knight has already become divisive. While I am a fan of his sword, I’m not super into the redesigned hands or head. Is it just me or does he bear a striking resemblance to Ultron? MegUltron?
Like his Decepticon leader Megatron, Barricade also received a facial redesign and a freshly mounted arm gun. Although I must admit I am a fan of his new chest plate.

Well for one thing, Hound had put on a little weight since his cartoon days. The Autobot medic’s look is slightly grittier than it was in Age of Extinction.
The trench coat is back. After facing massive redesigns for Age of Extinction, Crosshairs’ aesthetic seems to have stayed mostly the same, save for a larger butt-chin.
Those who have been keeping up with Transformers news already knew that Drift would be facing a redesign, but the Honorable Warrior looks even more different than I expected. Regardless, props to Mercedes for snagging such coveted product placement.
As mentioned earlier, The Last Knight will introduce us to a fan-favorite autobot Hot Rod. But will his long-awaited introduction be worth possibility saying goodbye to Optimus Prime? I guess only time will tell.
Everyone, meet Sqweeks! This little fella is an entirely new character that we will be introduced to. Clearly, Bay and his team took notes from R2-D2 and BB-8 when designing the tiny Transformer. The picture on the left is just speculation of his alternate form, but it seems pretty spot-on.
What do you guys think of these new redesigns? Which characters look do you like the most? Let us know in the comments section.
