Despite its success, the network has set the stage for the series’ end.The Soviet-era intelligence drama has been renewed for its final two seasons at FX. Season 5 of The Americans will run for 13 episodes in 2017, with a 10-episode Season 6 in 2018. Co-showrunners Joseph Weisberg and Joel Fields have also signed overall deals with FX Productions, which will produce their follow-up to the series.Eric Schrier, FX’s president of original programming, seems particularly proud of the show. However, knowledge that the series is on the way out could cause Emmy voters to show some love for The Americans over the next two years.
