(Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for the most recent episode of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones,’ and potential ones for the rest of Season 6. Proceed with whatever level of caution your friendly neighborhood three-eyed raven suggests is wise.)
Now, one of the biggest problems for makers of as twisting and turning a show as Game of Thrones –– beyond the ever-present risk of episodes leaking — is that of providing episode descriptions that don’t completely spoil the plot for everyone who reads them. After all, had been mentioned in an episode synopsis, it would likely have lost pretty much all of its impact (even though we all knew it was going to happen). To get around this problem, though, HBO has long offered up intentionally vague and haiku-like episode descriptions — things like “an old foe comes back into the picture” — which could mean pretty much anything.
However, with the final two episodes of the show’s sixth season fast approaching, HBO has, it seems, opted to eliminate even such cunningly veiled descriptions, offering us no explanation whatsoever as to what those episodes will feature. Except, of course, this is the internet, and…
HBO Just Accidentally Revealed Two Major Game Of Thrones Plot Points In Its Emmy Submissions
As part of the Emmy-nominating process, networks put forward certain episodes or members of their casts and crews for consideration — and it seems that this year, HBO threw in a few pieces of tantalizingly SPOILER-ific plot information alongside their submissions.
Regarding next week’s episode, “The Battle of the Bastards,” it seems that we may now know that “Terms of surrender are rejected and accepted” — seemingly suggesting that some form of surrender will take place during the course of the episode. Or, of course, as is entirely possible, they won’t, and that tease is intended to be massively misleading when read without the benefit of hindsight, much like the trailer for the episode just below:
If we now see an entertainingly snarky rejection of terms of surrender (and perhaps an acceptance of it only taking place over someone’s dead body), though, then you can perhaps classify that carefully worded teaser as a little less cryptic than it currently seems.
What About The Season Finale, Though?
Well, the tease for the season’s final episode — “The Winds of Winter” — is actually a little more clear cut, informing us that “Cersei faces her trial.” Though, seeing as we all pretty much knew that was coming, that’s really not all that much of a SPOILER. With some , however, there’s a pretty good chance that it might still spell trouble for King’s Landing — and perhaps the Lannister family as a whole.
Or, y’know, Cersei may just patiently await her trial, and completely ignore ” . But it doesn’t seem likely…
What do you think, though?
