‘Gotham’ Casting News: Older Poison Ivy is Coming to Town, Beware! Does this Mean Harley Quinn Isn’t Far Behind?

Gotham announced earlier this year that it was looking to recast Ivy Pepper (Poison Ivy) played by Clare Foley on and off again for the first two seasons, but really hadn’t been given the opportunity to shine as the plant-loving seductive villainess. And now, it appears they’ve finally found the young woman who’s going to do just that.

Actress Magge Geha (Ted 2) has joined the third season as a series regular. And though it may not be clear as to how right now, the actress will reportedly be playing a nineteen-year-old version of the character. According to the character description released with her casting, she will be indeed be far different than what we’ve seen from her so far on the DC/FOX series.

“Following an encounter with a monster from Indian Hill, Ivy Pepper finds herself reborn, and one step closer to the DC villain she is destined to become: Poison Ivy. Now a 19-year-old woman who’s harnessed the full power of her charms, she sets her sights on Bruce Wayne.”

Geha will join Once Upon A Time‘s Jaime Chung, who is tackling the obscure role of Valerie Vale in the upcoming third season, set to debut on September 19, 2016 in its usual Monday night timeslot.

With this news of Poison Ivy’s recasting, one has to wonder what this could possibly mean for another femme fatale of the illustrious Batman universe?

Longtime Joker collaborator, Harley Quinn, is best known to Batman fans as being the standout scene-stealer from the 1990’s animated series. Soon, however, she’ll be better known to audiences worldwide as the chick so powerful in movie fandom, she’ll break free of her male co-stars in the upcoming Suicide Squad to lead her own movie of all female characters, where she will be played to perfection by Wolf of Wall Street‘s Margot Robbie. The character, though super close with the Joker, is also known – especially as of late – as having a close, intimate relationship with Poison Ivy herself.

Now, Gotham has taken creative liberties with how they display these DC characters since the very beginning, why should Harley be any different? Now’s the time to introduce a pre-Joker Harleen Quinzel, the girl, the child, the innocent. Before she became a doctor at Arkham Asylum. Give TV viewers a chance to see the life before she lost her marbles. Well, maybe before she lost them completely. Give us a chance to fall in love with her before she’s broken down and manipulated into the psychotic sociopathic villain she will eventually become. And why not explore a possible relationship with Ivy as well? It certainly wouldn’t hurt.

I think fans are owed this. After all, we did let Gotham get away with ruining Barbra Gordon so they could continue with their eye-rolling obsession with Lee Thompkins. I say that more than merits a favor by now.

Gotham returns to FOX on Monday, September 19, at 8:00 PM Eastern Time.
