Director James Gunn recently wrapped shooting on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, leaving fans hungry for more space-faring adventures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Luckily, we now have a better idea of what to expect from the film.
Marvel Studios has released an official synopsis for the upcoming movie, teasing what we can expect during the Guardians’ latest adventure.
As Marvel’s official synopsis reads:
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
The synopsis doesn’t reveal much, though it is interesting to see that the mystery of Peter Quill’s parents will take centerstage in the film. As fans will remember, the first film opened with a young Peter Quill being abducted by alien space pirate Yondu Udonta and the Ravagers. But why would they come after him in the first place? Was it really as random as it seemed? We’re likely to get some answers in Vol. 2. Both Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone have mystery roles in the movie, and the synopsis seems to support fan speculation that one of the actors is playing Quill’s father.
It’s also promising to hear that Marvel’s expanding its cosmic universe with both returning and new characters. We know that Karen Gillan is returning as Nebula, a villain in the first film, though it sounds like she may help the Guardians this time around. Meanwhile, we have — a hero who has been a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics. With rumors that powerhouse characters and could appear in the film, the Guardians are going to need all the help they can get.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens May 10, 2017. What do you hope to see in the upcoming cosmic adventure? Let us know in the comments.
