How Many Times Has an Actor Played His or Her Twin in a Movie? You’d Be Surprised!

Let’s play a game. And that game is…Celebrity Jeopardy!

Alex, I’ll have “Celebrities who play multiple versions of themselves in movies.”

I don’t know about everyone else, but the first person that would pop into my mind would be none other than Eddie Murphy. He’s played so many different Klumps!

Let’s take a look at some other movies where the main actor/actress not only played their part, but also their twin’s part!

Caution: mild spoilers ahead for these movies…sometimes, movies keep it secret that there’s a twin involved, usually because they’re crazy!

Hayley Mills & Lindsay Lohan – The Parent Trap (1961 & 1998)

The original starred Mills, fresh from Pollyanna, as Susan and Sharon, twins separated as infants following their parents’ divorce. That’s what I call getting an equal share of your stuff! LiLo starred in the remake, where we were convinced that she was going to stay cute and darling forever!

The fact that Lindsay starred in another twin movie in 2007, I Know Who Killed Me, doesn’t need to be discussed.

Jean-Claude Van Damme – Double Impact (1991) & Maximum Risk (1996)

JCVD has played multiple versions of himself multiple times. He was his own twin in Double Impact and Maximum Risk, and TimeCop, Replicant and The Order allowed him to just play he, him and himself.

Jackie Chan – Twin Dragons (1992)

This one is only included because of the man, Jackie Chan. With bad effects and really bad dubbing, this is only fun to watch if you want to see Chan’s wacky fighting.

Leonardo DiCaprio – The Man in the Iron Mask (1998)

Sorry, couldn’t resist that Flash shout out.

Probably the most memorable of all of these, purely because it’s Leo, who was fresh from Titanic and Romeo + Juliet.

James Carpinello – The Punisher (2004)

Are you ready for an “OMG, really???” moment? I wasn’t ready for it when I found this out! Carpinello plays both Bobby and John Saint, the twin sons of John Travolta’s character, Howard Saint. When Bobby dies at the hands of Frank Castle, John kills Frank’s family.

Christian Bale – The Prestige (2006)

This is a “did you see that coming?” kind of movie. And it’s also one of the reasons why I warned you ahead of time about spoilers.

Christian Bale plays twins Alfred & Frederick, to help their trick, “The Transported Man,” work, if you hadn’t figured that out yet!

Sam Worthington – Avatar (2009)

This one is easy to forget about if you’re not careful. Not because it’s lacking as a movie…it’s a flipping incredible movie! But I always forget that Sam plays not only Jake Sully, but his dead twin brother Tom. He kind of has to, so his brother’s intended Avatar can only work with the brothers’ DNA.

Armie Hammer – The Social Network (2010)

Didn’t know Armie played both Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss in this movie, alongside Jesse Eisenberg? That’s okay…I didn’t either, and only a really good movie buff would have caught it.

Adam Sandler – Jack and Jill (2011)

Not even going to talk about this embarrassing movie. It deserved the record it holds for the Razzies, earning all 10 awards. And it’s probably the reason why aliens won’t talk to us.

Rachel Weisz – Constantine (2005)

I saved my all-time favorite movie for last! Rachel plays Angela and Isabel Dodson, and Keanu Reeves’ John Constantine helps them find peace. And Shia LaBouf dies and becomes a friggin’ angel…awesome!

Honorable mentions

We can’t forget about the movies that were pioneers in this type of film.

In 1945, Danny Kaye starred in Wonder Man, a movie that almost makes Patrick Swayze’s Ghost sound like a remake. It’s about murder, a ghost asking his still alive twin brother to help. It earned an Academy Award for its use of the effects, which were groundbreaking back then.
