How Much Was Neve Campbell Paid For ‘Scream’?

There is no without Neve Campbell. The reluctant heroine, who is so damn great precisely because she doesn’t love the star part, is the core of . Please, please say it’s so… but cash alone won’t draw her back to another installment.

After an eight year Hollywood hiatus, in which Campbell lived in Europe and wisely took smaller, more interesting parts of her choosing, she’s back on House of Cards, but can she be persuaded to go back to serious box office slammers again?

Money wouldn’t be the deciding factor, but interestingly enough, Campbell notes that the Scream franchise was the only project in which she got paid on a level with male colleagues, telling Business Insider:

”I know for a fact that I’ve not been paid equally on any job for whatever position I’ve been in… [except for] maybe, on the ‘Scream’ films. When you have a lot of weight behind you, when there isn’t a choice in the matter, then you can push. But if there’s a choice, you’re always going to get less.”

Still, horror fans can take comfort from the fact that Neve Campbell was paid well for the Scream movies, and deservedly so.

Scream 4… and 5?

After scouring the internet I cannot find a solid source for how much Neve Campbell was paid for Scream 4. It’s actually surprisingly tough to glean real numbers for Hollywood pay grades, but IMDb does offer Courtney Cox’s salary for all four Scream movies:

  • Scream (1996) $1,000,000
  • Scream 2 (1997) $5,000,000
  • Scream 3 (2000) $7,000,000
  • Scream 4 (2011) $7,000,000

It seems a reasonable guess that Neve Campbell would have been paid a comparable sum for Scream 4 as her colleague Courtney Cox. Campbell probably received a little less than Courtney Cox, who gained such massive star power from her run in Friends. Friends ended its TV run in 2004, putting her at the height of her Monica Geller salary when Scream 3 was filmed in 2000 (hence her being paid $3 million more than Campbell to reprise her role).

Regarding , Campbell will only return if it’s AWESOME (which would be a win-win situation for everyone!):

”It would have to be something really special and really different. They’d have to be really convincing about who they decided to bring on as director, and I’d still have to do a bit of soul-searching on that one.”
