IDW Publishing Announces Massive Hasbro Comics Crossover

Paramount is currently developing its , but fans that can’t wait for the film version might want to turn to IDW Publishing.

The comic book company, which already publishes several series based on Hasbro’s properties, revealed plans for Revolution, a five issue crossover between its various Hasbro series. The comic book event will bring the , G.I. Joe, Action Man, Micronauts, M.A.S.K. and properties together for the first time, creating a shared mythology for the popular brands.

IDW has published comics based on Transformers and G.I. Joe for years, with series based on ROM and Micronauts launched earlier this year. Thankfully, Revolution won’t rewrite what’s happened previously. Instead, the new series will build upon IDW’s success by adding more characters to create a Hasbro universe. As IDW Publishing’s chief creative officer Chris Ryall said:

“We’ve been working toward a full-fledged universe for some time. It’s great fun to be able to bring it to vivid life, especially since it allows us to give the world new titles like the very-requested M.A.S.K., as well as some exciting new books still to be announced.”

Michael Kelly, Head of Global Publishing at Hasbro, further elaborated on the connection between the company’s properties:

“Our heroes, whether they are from Earth or from distant reaches of the galaxy, all have one thing in common: their powers and abilities are based primarily on technology. We have been able to use this fact to build a natural and believable link between all of these disparate characters. The result is a complex and dynamic world where all manner of conflicts and team-ups can and will exist. If you are a fan of Hasbro’s brands, your time is now.”

Potential Ties to the Hasbro Cinematic Universe?

While Revolution is only intended to create a mythology for Hasbro comics, its easy to see how the upcoming series could influence the Hasbro Cinematic Universe. The projects have the same goal — they both seek to create a shared universe and mythology for popular Hasbro characters. While the Hasbro Cinematic Universe may ultimately diverge from what Revolution establishes, the comic book series will still prepare fans to see their favorite Hasbro characters together at last.

The main Revolution series is set to debut in September, with tie-in issues planned for IDW’s individual Hasbro series. Revolution will be co-written by Cullen Bunn and John Barber with art by Fico Ossio. Do you think the comic book crossover lays the groundwork for the Hasbro Cinematic Universe?
