Is ‘Nashville’ Saved in Time For a Season 5?

TV cancellations can be brutal. The numbers game played by networks to determine what shows live and what shows die can seem pretty arbitrary to a devoted fanbase. Especially when that fanbase is rabidly vocal about their love for a show. The fans of ABC’s country-music-focused show are certainly loud and clear on social networks and when it was announced last month that the show was after four seasons they took to the Twittersphere to express their sadness.

ABC’s Nashville

#SaveNashville was trending after the news broke and it looks like the fan’s internet prayers may just be answered. Variety reports that among other potential buyers CMT is eyeballing Nashville.

Considering the show’s premise — a fading country star clashes with a rising country star among the glamour and theatrics of the country music scene – CMT (Country Music Television) seems an ideal location for the defunct drama. Ratings on ABC for the show were considered too low to renew for another season, averaging this past season around 6 million viewers, but CMT would consider these numbers phenomenal.

Maybe not surprising for a channel whose biggest hits have revolved around rednecks (My Big Redneck Wedding), Nascar and country music. Their most viewed program is the Country Music Awards. While its unsure who would return on the show if and when it found a home, the show comes with real star power in Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere.

Showrunners Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz were attached to Season 5 before the cancellation and thus likely to return as well. Kevin Beggs, Lionsgate’s head of TV who have been shopping the show around, told Variety last month that he believes the show to be pretty evergreen in its scope and storylines saying:

“These kinds of shows can go forever and ever — obviously that’s our hope and expectation, but we’ve got to do it one season at a time. So right now, we’re all about Season 5. So we hope to land Season 5 and keep talking about this show for years to come.”

Hold out hope, Nashies!

Would you move with Nashville to CMT to keep watching the show?
