Is Sarah Michelle Gellar Joining the Cast of ‘Alien 5’? Let’s Find Out!

Now that , I think it’s time to start the speculation as to what lucky lady of Hollywood could be worthy enough to join the Oscar-nominee in the upcoming sequel. As we all know, original Aliens star, Carrie Henn – who portrayed Newt/Rebecca in the James Cameron directed sequel – retired from acting when she was but a young girl and has made no plans to alter that in the immediate future. Bummer.

But! That doesn’t mean Newt won’t have a major part to play in Neill Blomkamp’s higly anticipated sequel. And because of that, it’s time for another round of fabulous fan-casting!

Who could possibly step inside the petite shoes of Carrie Henn? Oh, I don’t know for sure….but what about one of these wonderful leading ladies?

Sarah Michelle Gellar

The former star of the hit series Buffy The Vampire Slayer, hasn’t made a big screen appearance since the re-release of Veronika Decides To Die in 2012. That film, though based on a best-selling novel, failed on almost every level to deliver a performance worthy of Gellar’s disgracefully underused dramatic talent. A string of two failed TV shows follow Gellar into 2016, but hopefully will all change with the TV adaption/sequel to 1999’s teen focused remake of Dangerous Liaisons, Cruel Intentions, where she will reprise her role as Kathryn Merteuil. A sure fire smash hit like Alien 5 would certainly help Gellar’s attempt at a comeback and would most likely set in motion a powerful new direction for her career that she would be a fool to ignore.

Michelle Williams

Williams has had one of the best and most intriguing careers in Hollywood to date. However, one hasn’t really had the opportunity for her to take on a more powerful and risky role like would require her to star in a film like Alien 5. It would be an excellent opportunity for Williams to showcase a brand new side of herself than movie viewers would almost certainly be taken aback in sheer surprise to see. It would also help the film set her up in a franchise that has done great things for women, turning original Alien star Sigourney Weaver into a household name and delivering an Oscar nomination right to her doorstep! Personally, I would love to see a new side to Williams. And I have no doubt she would be just as excellent a performer as Carrie Henn was when she portrayed originally portrayed Newt thirty years ago.

Margot Robbie

If any reader here has missed out on the stunning rise of Robbie’s claim to the top of Hollywood fame, you must be seriously living under a rock in the deepest part of the unexplored Amazon. This Suicide Squad actress has captured the hearts of comic book fans everywhere with her breathtaking performance as Batman villain and DC Comics icon, Harley Quinn. That film, though quite different from the Alien franchise, is nothing short of action/adventure/mayhem incarnate. Robbie herself takes on a character that seriously – just looking at the trailer – kicks some ass. I’m sure fans of hers and of the Alien series would go wild if it were announced that Robbie had taken the coveted role as grown-up Newt for Alien 5. I know I would.

Anna Paquin

This X-Men veteran is no stranger to action films, having starred in four of the Marvel/FOX films as the mutant incapable of any physical contact, Rogue. To me, she also bears somewhat of a striking resemblance to what Carrie Henn looks like nowadays. I highly doubt Paquin would pass on the role, given her recent comments about what it would take for her to play Rogue again, and I don’t think she would have any problem with getting down and dirty with Ripley and the Alien scum she’s battled since 1979. It would also give Paqui the opportunity to shine like she was never really able to during her tenure with the X-Men series.

Claire Danes

Claire Danes isn’t one to shy away from difficult roles. Her time as Carrie Mathison on Showtime’s original series Homeland, has been one of the most tenuous and brutal performances I’ve ever seen her undertake. The requirements for Newt’s – assumably greater – role in Alien 5 would see Danes stretch that talen she’s so well known for into places far greater than we’ve seen from her so far. I get shivers just thinking about the dramatic change we would see as she transitions from the sobby mess that is Homeland‘s Carrie, to the potentially powerful role as the new Newt in the ever expanding Alien franchise.

Jennifer Morrison

This House and Once Upon A Time actress was once a darling of the silver screen, starring in such hit films as 2011’s Warrior and the 2009 J.J. Abrams reboot of Star Trek. Her time on the hit ABC series, currently in production of its sixth season, has taken quite the chunk of her time, not leaving much room for lots of gritty dramas and jaw-dropping action titles. However, she is slated to star in the upcoming reboot of the Amityville horror saga, Amityville: The Awakening due out in early January 2017. I believe her time on ABC’s Once Upon A Time as the unstoppable savior of Storybrooke is all the proof we need of how amazing a job she could do as the new Newt in Alien 5. I’m sure Morrison would revel in the challenge, taking a step further into becoming the new Queen of Geek fandom.
