Is THIS How Thanos Got The Infinity Gauntlet For Avengers: Infinity War?

Since 2008’s Iron Man, Marvel has gradually created a connected universe and built a storyline that will reach its culmination with the arrival of Thanos. With every new Marvel movie release, we are getting one step closer to the epic showdown that is Avengers: Infinity War. In the comics, Thanos’ goal is to impress Mistress Death, for which he collects the six Infinity Stones with innumerable amount of power. Though his objective might be different in the movies, he still requires all Infinity Gems to achieve it. :

“What Thanos wants in the comics is not necessarily what Thanos wants in the movies; we don’t know yet.”

The Infinity Gems can only be controlled through the Infinity Gauntlet. It’s supposedly in in Asgard as hinted in Thor. However, in the end-credits of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, we saw that Thanos has the Gauntlet in his possession. So how did Thanos get his hands on it? Are there two Infinity Gauntlets? Is one of them fake? Let’s look at the matter chronologically…

The Facts

The Other threatens Loki

The Other threatens Loki

The Infinity Gauntlet was in Asgard when the Frost Giants attacked. It assumedly remained there till the end of Thor. In The Avengers, Thanos gave Loki the Chitauri Scepter to help him retrieve the Tesseract. He would be punished severely if he failed to do so.

“If you fail, if the Tesseract is kept from us, there will be no realm, no barren moon, no crevice where he cannot find you. You think you know pain? He will make you long for something as sweet as pain.” – The Other, The Avengers

Yet we see Loki free as a bird when he impersonates Odin at the end of Thor: The Dark World. Finally, we see Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet in the Avengers sequel.

The Conclusion

All of this doesn’t make much sense unless…

Loki helped Thanos again – this time offering him the Gauntlet.

Think of it like this: Loki somehow rules Asgard as Odin All-Father, which gives him access to all the valuables in the Trophy Room. He grants Thanos the Infinity Gauntlet for which he spares him his life. Thanos owns the Gauntlet and Loki has no life-threats whatsoever. It’s as simple as that.

What Does This Mean For The MCU?

Asgard in the MCU.
Asgard in the MCU.

If this theory is true, it means that Thanos has a powerful ally who now rules over Asgard and the Avengers have another big threat to face. This also leaves the possibility that in fact, Thanos helped Loki rule over Asgard, and that Loki maybe promised even more to Thanos – the Trophy Room or maybe even all of Asgard.
