In , an old horror favorite lives again. In another time, another generation, Stephen King’s It will stalk another set of young innocents. We’ve seen our , but while the , nothing has been revealed about our young heroes on set… until now!
2017 It movie director Andy Muschietti shared this lovely pic of young Finn Wolfhard, who you may recognize from .
It director Muschietti’s Instagram pic is a Missing Poster for It character Richie Tozier, played by Seth Green in the . In the upcoming 2017 It remake, childhood Richie will be played by Stranger Things‘s Finn Wolfhard — yup, that is his real name. The poster also reveals the 1976 setting for the It movie’s first installment in 2017. The It reboot will be split into two parts, just like the original 1990 movie, with the first ‘childhood’ part coming in 2017 and the second ‘adulthood’ part coming later.
The poster is a lovingly rendered ’70s piece, replete with retro styling and branding for the fictional Derry Police Department. Muschietti has also shared another Missing Poster for the 2017 It movie. This one portrays Betty Ripsom (actor unknown) who is one of Pennywise’s early victims in both Stephen King’s novel and the 1990 It movie.
Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard seems a good fit for the new It movie, and he certainly has a handle on how scary movies work. The talented youngster spoke to Vulture about horror movies and the upcoming It remake:
”Scary movies, for me, I used to be insanely scared of. But now I know when I’m watching a movie, there’s a guy right there and there’s a guy holding up a light right there. It’s anticipatory anxiety, when you’re anticipating it to be scary when it’s really not. That’s my problem. My fear is going to a horror movie in a movie theater…
I think you should go see ‘It’ in the theater. It’s one of those things that’s taking a lot of the pages from ’80s horror, so it’s not all jump scares. I mean, I’m not going to say too much about it, but it’s very eerie. I think a lot of people will like it.”
Oh, and he also does a pretty decent Nirvana cover. Like I said, talented.
The new It movie hits theaters September 8, 2017. Will you be watching?
