James Wan Is Set To Direct The ‘MacGyver’ Reboot Pilot (Again)

CBS’ reboot has gone through some twists and turns since being greenlit, similar to the plot of an old MagGyver episode itself. But some good news today in the form of a familiar name returning to direct the pilot…again: James Wan is once again back in the driver’s seat for the reboot.

Wait, “again?” Yes, “again.” Wan was but had to drop out due to conflicts with his schedule. David Von Ancken replaced him as a director and filmed a pilot that was solid enough to score a pickup for the series, but scrapped as an episode. But a break has appeared in Wan’s schedule that will allow for him to direct the second version of the pilot. He’ll also still be serving in an executive producer role on the series.

A reimagining of the classic series, is an action-adventure drama about 20-something Angus “Mac” MacGyver who creates a clandestine organization within the U.S. government where he uses his extraordinary talent for unconventional problem solving and vast scientific knowledge to save lives. Joining his team on high-risk missions around the globe is maverick former CIA agent Jack Dalton. Under the aegis of the Department of External Services, MacGyver takes on the responsibility of saving the world, armed to the teeth with resourcefulness and little more than bubble gum and a paper clip.

Lucas Till is playing the titular role, while George Eads will be playing the character of Jack Dalton.

James Wan is a gifted and versatile director, possibly the hottest in Hollywood right now. Though he’s , he’s also proven he’s a great action director with last year’s . His most high profile upcoming projects include directing and serving as producer on the remake.

While there is no exact premiere date, MacGyver is set to premiere this fall at 8p.m. on CBS.
