Jennifer Lawrence Talks Potential For X-Men Return

X-Men: Apocalypse will hit theaters in a little over a week, with fan favorite characters like Charles Xavier, Magneto and Mystique returning for another mutant-filled adventure. Sadly, they might not all be back for more movies. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, actress Jennifer Lawrence revealed that she isn’t sure she’ll return as the shapeshifting Mystique in future installments of the X-Men franchise. As Lawrence told the magazine:

“Fassbender and McAvoy and I were all talking. Like, ‘Will you come back?’ ‘I dunno.’ ‘I’ll come back, if you come back.’ Fox should be terrified because the deal we made was like if one of us doesn’t come back, none of us are.”

That would put the studio in a pretty terrible predicament. The trio have been at the core of Fox’s revived X-Men franchise since 2011’s X-Men: First Class, a franchise that will surely have more entries. But fans shouldn’t lose hope just yet. Further debating her return, Lawrence had this to say:

“I would love to come back. I love the fans and I love the character. But then you realize how important your year is, like how important three months out of your year is. I don’t know. I shouldn’t be that honest.”

Lawrence’s initial appearance as Mystique in First Class was her first foray into Hollywood blockbusters, and in the years since she’s become one of the industry’s most bankable stars. Appearances in both the Hunger Games and X-Men franchises have been massive box office hits, while performances in films like Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle and Joy have really proven her acting chops. Few performers can bounce between the worlds of big budget blockbusters and prestige dramas while gaining major praise from fans and critics alike.
In other words, Jennifer Lawrence can do almost whatever she wants. And at this point, it’s unclear if those desires include more X-Men movies. You can catch Lawrence as Mystique when X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27.
