Ever since hit the headlines last week, troubling accusations of verbal and physical abuse have been trickling out into the mainstream media alongside images of the actress’s beaten face.
Currently, a temporary restraining order has been placed against Johnny Depp, preventing him from coming near his estranged wife. All the while, the media storm in the heart of Hollywood rages on and reign supreme on social media.
Yet in the wake of the domestic abuse revelations and upon his return from a music tour in Europe, Johnny has yet to issue a personal statement. In the meantime though, his high-powered attorney, Laura Wasser, has expressed some hard-hitting words. Published via magazine, she slammed Amber for being untrustworthy:
“Amber is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse. Her current application for a temporary restraining order along with her financial requests appears to be in response to the negative media attention she received earlier this week after filing for divorce. Yet Johnny cannot protect himself or Amber from media scrutiny, and Amber’s anger certainly cannot drive this dissolution proceeding.”
Ultimately, the above statement fails to directly address the specifics of Heard’s domestic abuse allegations. Instead, it essentially claims that the actress is taking advantage of her estranged husband during a very emotional time in his life — news broke that his mother had died just days before Amber filed for divorce.
And in the midst of this, people close to the actor have also taken it upon themselves to jump to his defense. For one, former long-term partner Vanessa Paradis, with whom Depp has two children, penned a letter in support of the actor. In the note, she bashed Amber’s claims as ‘outrageous’ before revealing that:
“In all the years I have known Johnny, he has never been physically abusive with me and this looks nothing like the man I lived with for 14 wonderful years.”
Her daughter, Lily Rose, was also quick to defend her father on Instagram, posting a throwback image of her as a baby by her dad’s side. Once again, for him and had this to say:
“My dad is the sweetest most loving person I know, he’s been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same.”

Finally, Lori Anne Allison, who was married to Johnny from 1983 to 1985, has also publicly spoken out against Amber Heard’s allegations that Johnny was mentally and physically abusive towards her. From her perspective, Depp has always been a “soft person” who wouldn’t hurt a fly.
Indeed, although it is well and good that the actor’s family and close friends are remaining at his side during this nightmare, this is not enough to clear his name. While his nearest and dearest remain supportive, the crux of the matter is that this domestic abuse allegation is incredibly serious and also comes at a volatile time for the actor.
While evidence regarding his actions remains unconfirmed, allegedly for a while now Depp has been plagued with a drinking problem, as well as immeasurable grief in recent weeks — some may argue that these circumstances alone are enough to change a person and make them act aggressively.
Ultimately, for the time being, we can only wait and see what crucial information emerges in the coming weeks. But in the meantime, let’s not forget the following:
