‘Justice League’: Has This ‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Been Cast As Steppenwolf?

Over the course of the past few months we have had many major casting announcements for Justice League. From Willem Dafoe to J.K. Simmons, the castings have shaken the pop culture world and gotten many on an early hype train for the superhero ensemble film. But one character that has yet to be cast is the film’s main antagonist, Steppenwolf.

After the character’s cameo was cut from the theatrical release of Batman v Superman, the villainous uncle of Darkseid was confirmed to be the next film’s main villain, who will undoubtedly fight the Justice League with his army of . While the character was announced, we did not receive any news on who would portray him. News has been scarce on Justice League ever since an onslaught of information about the film was released last month and we haven’t even heard a whisper about the film since — that is, until now.

A rumor has surfaced on that Charles Dance and Colin Farrell have been eyed for Steppenwolf by Warner Bros. As this is still just a rumour and has no credibility, we must take this news with a grain of salt. But it is worth noting that that Farrell was apparently cast in Justice League.

As Steppenwolf will most likely be brought to life through CGI and voiceover — as shown by his cut cameo — both actors would do a terrific job as Steppenwolf.

Farrell certainly resembles Steppenwolf’s comic book counterpart, and depending on what way they decide to bring the character to life, he could do the character justice. If they made Steppenwolf an arrogant and confident general, along the lines of Wonder Woman or Thor, Farrell would definitely suit the role.

But the better choice for the character is Charles Dance, simply due to his performance as Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones. Tywin was the merciless who would do anything to make sure his family was the strongest in the Seven Kingdoms. Couple this with the fact that Steppenwolf is both Darkseid’s uncle and general and you’ve got a perfect casting. Seeing Charles Dance on screen was one of the most entertaining parts of Game of Thrones. Every time he spoke, both the characters on screen and the audience listened. He has such a commanding presence that you can honestly imagine him being the voice for Darkseid and not Steppenwolf, but that’s a discussion for another day.

Once again, this is just a rumor and should not be taken to heart. Although, I can’t help but envision how amazing both actors would be as Steppenwolf. Both have experience playing villains; while one would have the very cocky and self-assured personality of a confident general, the other has a commanding and terrifying presence that many actors lack these days. It will be interesting to see if these rumors are true, and we one day get to see either actor as the Apokalyptian General.

Who would you like to see play Steppenwolf?
