Kate Beckinsale Says Michael Bay Criticized Her Looks And Weight On ‘Pearl Harbor’ Set

Kate Beckinsale made her break out in Micheal Bay’s Pearl Harbor in 2001, but it seems like the controversial movie director wasn’t as enamored with the emerging talent as the general public were.

For a reminder of what Beckinsale looked like in the role, check out her vintage glam in the trailer below:

The 42-year-old actor recently appeared on the Graham Norton show where she revealed the explosive director was much more interested in her waist line than her acting talents, she joked:

“I think he was baffled by me because my boobs weren’t bigger than my head and I wasn’t blond.”

Beckinsale went on to explain that although she had just and lost weight for the audition, she was still expected to lose more weight to accurately portray a wartime nurse, she told Graham Norton:

“I’d just had my daughter and had lost weight . . . but I was told that if I got the part, I’d have to work out. And I just didn’t understand why a 1940s nurse would do that.”

While Bay seemed to be happy to gush over his male stars, , and praise them for their performances and perfect appearances for the role, Beckinsale wasn’t so lucky. Kate explained:

“When he was asked about me, he’d say, ‘Kate wasn’t so attractive that she would alienate the female audience.’ ”

Charming! Of course, this isn’t the first time Bay has been in hot water for his attitude toward women both on and off set.

Bizarrely, the director seems to miraculously know exactly how women think and feel and, apparently, one thing 50 percent of the global population can’t stand is beautiful women. He told Vanity Fair that he chose Beckinsale for the role because:

“I didn’t want someone who was too beautiful. Women feel disturbed when they see someone’s too pretty.”

Megan Fox also publicly denounced Bay and his attitudes on set when she once famously said that:

“Bay wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is. So he’s a nightmare to work for.”

but it seems unlikely that Bay’s attitudes have changed…

Do you think Michael Bay needs to reevaluate how he thinks about women?
