After her debut role in Panic Room at the age of 12, has been destined for stardom and a life in the spotlight. While her immense talents have afforded her a prolific and lucrative acting career at a young age, the 26-year-old actress has not always been as lucky in love.
Despite a number of high-profile and seemingly happy relationships, each has come with its fair share of problems, largely in part because of the lack of privacy that celebrities pay for the price of fame. But as of late, Stewart is thriving — both personally and professionally — and she seems happier than ever.
In addition to a slew of critically successful films, subsequent accolades, and an upcoming movie directed by Academy Award winner Ang Lee, Stewart has also been . Stewart had previously her relationship with Cargile, but in a recent interview with Elle UK for their September issue, the and actress opened up about their love and the immense happiness it brings her:
“Right now I’m just really in love with my girlfriend. We’ve broken up a couple of times and gotten back together, and this time I was like, ‘Finally, I can feel again.'”
No relationship is perfect, but it’s great to hear that she and Cargile have been able to reach that period of comfort and stability with one another. Not only did Stewart note the happiness she has found with Cargile, but she also spoke on the nature of past relationships and what led to their failure:
“When I was dating a guy I was hiding everything that I did because everything personal felt like it was immediately trivialized, so I didn’t like it. We were turned into these characters and placed into this ridiculous comic book, and I was like, ‘That’s mine. You’re making my relationship something that it’s not.’ I didn’t like that.”
It’s really no secret that she’s talking about her four-year-long relationship with fellow Twilight star . While it warmed the hearts of Twihards to see their beloved fictional characters fall in love in real life, the spotlight thrust upon their relationship was molded it into something it wasn’t:
“But then it changed when I started dating a girl. I was like, ‘Actually, to hide this provides the implication that I’m not down with it or I’m ashamed of it, so I had to alter how I approached being in public. It opened my life up and I’m so much happier.”
In an industry that expects to know the ins and outs of those involved, it’s good to know Stewart is striking the balance between private and public life. At long last the actress has found a way to be true to herself — and we couldn’t be happier for her.
Stewart’s next film, , hits theaters on November 11.
