Spoilers for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will follow.So that just happened. Amongst all the fighting and Rip doing a “Dark Knight Rises” with the Thanagarian meteor, I completely forgot that Patrick J. Adams was debuting as a fan favourite DC character. Once I saw the waverider falling through the sky, I immediately remembered and honestly thought that Booster Gold had received it from his relative Rip Hunter. What I wasn’t expecting was Hourman and a Justice Society reveal! There were rumours of Blue Beetle and Batman Beyond but this beats all of that. DC have set up their TV Justice League!We now have confirmation from Marc Guggenheim about what we are to expect in season two. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Guggenheim revealed;
With his final words in the finale, he planted a pretty deep flag about where we’re headed in season two, which is not just introducing Hourman but introducing his teammates in the Justice Society of America
Not only are we getting Hourman and a Justice of Society name drop, but we are getting the full Justice Society! Now that Supergirl is part of this universe, it seems like we are now one step closer to seeing a true Justice Society with Flash, Green Arrow and Supergirl being this universes trinity!
While the run in of the series teased the Thanagarians as the main antagonist of season two, Guggenheim was quick to dismiss that revealing;
“The season two big bad is actually not going to be the [alien race of] Thanagarians. It’s going to be something else entirely. All I’ll really say about the nemesis in season two is Vandal Savage looks like a walk in the park compared to what the Legends will be facing. This will be a much, much bigger threat. I’m going to leave it at that because when we do reveal it, it’s going to be pretty big. People will be asking, ‘Vandal who?’ once they get the full picture of what our team is up against. It’s going to be way bigger than what you can even imagine, I can guarantee it.”
Could we be seeing the Anti Monitor? Or even Brainiac? While they may seem like too big of a pull for a TV series you have to wonder, who can they face that makes Vandal Savage look like a walk in the park? Granted, Savage was relatively weak in Legends compared to his comic counter part, but there are no villains that come to mind who could rival Savage except those two, but who said it was just a singular villain?Could we see the Legion of Doom?
It is to be expected. If they bring in a team of superheroes, we must have a team of supervillains. The DCTV Universe has a wide array of misused villains, such as Huntress, Weather Wizard and Vertigo, at their disposal. This would be a perfect opportunity to showcase all of their villains, just like how Legends showcased the shows favourite side characters. While this is purely speculation, I would love to see a Legion of Doom and Justice Society battle. My inner 10 year old is crying right now, and so is my outer 18 year old.
