If the first teaser trailer for Marvel’s Doctor Strange left you thinking “That was fun, I’mma need more doe,” you’re in luck.
Tonight at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel tried their hardest to upstage DC (whose promised big things for the DCEU) by dropping a ton of new trailers and throwing a few major casting announcements into the mix. And while the teaser for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 proved once again that heroes have more fun off-Earth, it was the first full-length trailer for Doctor Strange that really teased the changing face of the MCU.
Enough talk. Check out the trailer below and see for yourself just how mind-bendingly weird the Marvel universe is about to become.
The previous trailer, while looking stylish AF, created a degree of mystery around whether Baron Mordo, Stephen Strange’s comic book nemesis, or , the former appearing to take on more of a mentor role in a departure from the comics. This new trailer gives some clarity on that while also throwing Rachel McAdams’s character into the spotlight.
Even at this stage it feels quite evident that this movie won’t simply be another hero-villain binary (like, say, Ant-Man) and will instead go deeper into what it means to wield great, mystical power. And that’s something to be stoked about.
Doctor Strange hits theaters November 4, and I think it’s fair to say this is one movie which demands to be seen in 3D. Could this be a late contender for superhero flick of the year? Well, you’d have to be crazier than Harley Quinn to bet against Suicide Squad, but hey — stranger things have happened…
