Barely a couple of weeks after Netflix used their joint panel with Marvel at Comic-Con to drop teaser trailers for Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders, the studio have begun a hardcore promo blitz for Cage’s solo series.
That began yesterday with a new poster in which Mike Colter’s hero for fire gives his trademark death stare while a chorus of bullets bounce off his unbreakable skin. Luke Cage doesn’t need to shop online for his ripped T-shirts; he gets ’em for free. The poster is impressive enough, but the new trailer is the main event — check it out right here:
Those who watched Jessica Jones will probably remember that we left Luke in a pretty bad state in the season finale, being nursed back to health by Claire Temple after his ordeal at the hands of Kilgrave before he awakens and swiftly bolts from Jessica’s apartment. If you were expecting some kind of reference to Jones you might be disappointed with this new trailer — looks like you’ll need to wait it out for The Defenders to see the passionate ex-lovers reunited.
What this new trailer does have is an abundance of badassery from a man with a very different temperament to his fellow Marvel heroes on Netflix. While Jones is emotional and highly impulsive, and Matt Murdock struggles with the rage that burns inside him, Cage keeps his cool and gets shit done. That’s a dynamic the Defenders could definitely use.
trailer tomorrow? Sweet Christmas!

We also get to see Claire back at Luke’s side, and if this series mirrors their relationship in Marvel Comics, you might expect that dynamic to get seriously personal. Most thrillingly of all, it looks like we’ll be revisit Luke’s origin story via flashbacks, just as in Jessica Jones and Daredevil. “I was put in some tank like an exotic fish… I just want to be left the hell alone,” he growls. Don’t prod the beast.
Luke Cage puts his fist through Netflix’s wall on September 30, when Season 1 drops in full. Iron Fist follows in early 2017.
Could Luke Cage Be Even Darker Than Daredevil?
