On such a serious show, social media provides a comical contrast, showing the actors we know from Game of Thrones goofing off or otherwise being slightly less doom-and-gloom than they are on HBO. For instance, there’s this clip posted by Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) that shows .
Now, actress Carice van Houten (Melisandre) may have started her in the season finale of Game of Thrones — — but that didn’t stop her from posting a throwback pic to Twitter that was equal parts horrible and hilarious. Here’s van Houten giving a goodbye gift to then-16-year-old Kerry Ingram, who played Princess Shireen.
As you’ll remember, Melisandre burned the little princess at the stake in Season 5. Here she is behind the scenes, offering her a set of Duraflame Quick Start logs. Too soon?
Awkward farewell presents

Just when you thought Melisandre couldn’t get any sicker, it turns out that this snap is actually the result of Reddit Photoshop Wars, rather than van Houten’s own depraved sense of humor. Here was the original photo, with the actual gift: a set of flameless candles, an equally relevant but far less maniacal choice.
Meli might have been the one to give Shireen the quick start log, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t other guilty parties involved. For instance, there was Stannis:

And Davos, who gave her a piece of kindling then peaced out:
Let’s not forget that Ser Davos gave her what amounts to kindling as a farewell gift

Maybe this would have been a better idea…
Seriously, though. That scene from “Winds of Winter” when Davos finally confronted Melisandre.

You know, this one:
Then there’s the Disney spin on the whole thing from Unreality Mag:
But really, don’t blame Carice for Shireen’s death. It was really Nicolas Cage all along:
