Michael Keaton In Final Negotiations To Play Villain In ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

Michael Keaton is back in talks to star in Spider-Man: Homecoming! After negotiations had stalled last month over reported money issues, it would appear that the studios found it in their budget to appease the actor. It was reported this morning by Variety that the former Batman is back in the running to play the main villain in Sony/Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot. While all character details are still being kept tightly under wraps, rumors of Spidey’s next adversary have long been spreading. As was previously speculated, we’re still hoping Keaton will play the winged supervillain Vulture. After his Oscar-nominated performance in 2014’s Birdman, this casting choice seems just too fitting to pass up.Amy Pascal of Sony and Kevin Feige of Marvel will be producing Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Jon Watts has been tapped to helm the project. The two studios have already been commended on their casting choices after Tom Holland won over audiences with his debut performance as Spider-Man in this month’s Marvel blockbuster Captain America: Civil War.Holland and Keaton are joined by Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Zendaya as the female lead Michelle.Hopefully these final negotiations come to a close soon, because the gruff and seasoned Keaton taking on the sprightly young Tom Holland already sounds like an unforgettable match.Spider-Man: Homecoming will swing into theaters on July 7, 2017.(Source: Variety, The Hollywood Reporter)
