As you’ve no doubt probably heard, there rumour mill is on the grind again. This time with the news that Studios. Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, is quoted as saying,
I can’t speak for studios… As far as I know, yeah we do. It’s not at Fox, it’s not at Sony… Yeah
Whilst his comments insist he can’t speak for Marvel Studio’s, that doesn’t mean we can brush them aside. Namor may well be back at Marvel Studios, or indeed he might not, but Marvel being Marvel, we won’t get any confirmation until they’re ready. Whilst we wait, let’s have a look at 8 actors who could play him on the big screen.
I know what you’re thinking, didn’t he JUST play Apocalypse in X-Men? Yes, yes he did. You’ll also recall that he…
Died violently at the hands of Cyclops, Magneto, Xavier and mainly Jean.
Because of this, although’s Isaac’s schedule is lightly full to the brim, he does a small opening for another role. The X-Men Universe exists separate of the MCU, meaning once a contract is up with one side, technically, an actor is more than free and available for a role on the other side. He has the dark hair and good looks to play Namor, and more than enough under his belt to show he has the calibre to play a character this good. Though I had my issues with X-Men: Apocalypse, I can tell you Isaac wasn’t one of them.
Rami Malek is an incredibly talented actor who has more than proved his acting ability in a number of films. You may know him primarily for his roles in Night at the Musuem 2, The Twilight Saga and most recently the television series Mr Robot. At 35, he’s young enough to have some degree of longevity with the character, and more than has the ability to take on the role. He has no existing film contracts with any other studios, and could potentially be great in the role.
“But he played Gambit!!” I know, I know. You’ll also recall that he won’t be playing the character again, nor will he be appearing in any future films in the X-Men Franchise. This leaves him free enough to embark on a beautiful and wholly wonderful new journey with Marvel, as Namor. Now his Gambit wasn’t that great admittedly, nor was his role in John Carter, but overall he’s a good actor and would be a great addition to the MCU.
Ben Schnetzer is an actor best known for his roles in The Book Thief, The Riot Club, and most recently, Warcraft. Warcraft being the better of those three, Schnetzer showed quite a range in the movie, and at only 26 could potentially be a good pick for Namor. He’s young enough that he could play the role for a good few years, enabling Marvel to get the best out of the character.
BooBoo Stewart might be somewhat of an unconvential choice for Namor, but I believe he has the acting chops to do a good job, given the chance. We most recently saw him as Warpath in X-Men: Days of Future Past, a role that didn’t really give him much scope to do anything. At only 22, he may be slightly young for the role, but given that Marvel already have an existing line up of movies, a potential Namor movie could be a few years down the line, giving him time to establish a career for himself and possibly bulk up a little.
Luke Evans has had roles in a number of large franchises and successful movies, so the role of Namor should be nothing new to him. A brilliant actor, with the physique to play Namor, Evans could potential be a very good choice for the role. He’s not previously had any roles linked to Marvel or Marvel Studio’s, so no existing contracts to worry about.
So that’s it! No news yet on whether or not a Namor movie is definitely coming, or whether Marvel currently have the rights to the character, but it’s always fancasting! Let me know who your pick for Namor would be in the comments!
