Last weekend, Netflix provided an incredible look at its upcoming at San Diego Comic-Con. And now we have some more details on what’s coming for the MCU on Netflix.
During a Q&A at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos revealed that we won’t get new seasons of or until 2018. But don’t worry, because it’s all part of Marvel and Netflix’s master plan.
The streaming service is sticking with a two season per year schedule on its Marvel originals. We’ll get the first season of on September 30 this year, and 2017 will see the inaugural seasons of and , leaving space in 2018 for Jessica Jones and Daredevil. Of course, the Defenders team includes Daredevil and Jones as core members, so we’ll definitely get to see the heroes before their solo shows return.
It is also worth noting that when asked if would appear in The Defenders, Sarandos simply told attendees to “stay tuned.” It has been known for a while now that the new incarnation of The Punisher will be getting his own solo show at some point, but no word yet on when that could be.
Teaser trailers have been released for all three of the brand new Marvel TV shows and it seems if they each have their own flavor. It looks like Luke Cage will have a more upbeat tone than its counterparts, while Iron Fist will bring some mysterious kung fu flair to the shared universe. And I must say, I am extremely excited to see the superheros team-up next year in The Defenders.
It would seem it is a great time to be a fan of the superhero genre. There is so much out there at the moment. Some would say that the market is over-saturated but the fact that different shows and movies have unique tones keeps things fresh.
