“Hey sis! I just wanna let you know I made it here…”
You know you’re firmly in survival horror territory when a character in a movie, travelling alone somewhere beautiful and remote, calls her sister to announce her safe arrival, and sure enough that’s where we find Nancy (Blake Lively) in the trailer for Sony’s upcoming thriller .
At a time when most movie trailers are hell-bent on giving way most of the plot months before the film actually hits theaters, the marketing for The Shallows is creepy, gorgeous and downright ominous.
Check out the trailer below and you’ll see exactly what I mean.
If you’ve ever found yourself wondering why so few horror movies since Jaws have tapped into that universal fear of what lives beneath the ocean surface, The Shallows looks like it has the potential to be genuinely scary. More than that, it might also be the movie in which Lively proves what she’s capable of and breaks through into the mainstream.
Here’s Sony’s blurb:
When Nancy (Blake Lively) is attacked by a great white shark while surfing alone near a secluded beach, she is stranded just a short distance from shore. Though she is only 200 yards from her survival, getting there proves the ultimate contest of wills.

Today a new, final trailer hit the internet, and this one is all about establishing the atmosphere. If the movie itself is even half as unsettling, intense or visually stunning as this one implies, we’re in for a hell of a ride. The movie hits theaters Stateside on June 29.
Check the final trailer out, and then tell me…
