Warning: This article contains spoilers from Season 1 of Preacher. If you haven’t caught up then I command you, in my best Genesis voice, to stop reading now.
Preacher concluded its first season in this week and for . However, before we start anticipating what comes next, let’s reflect on the loose ends that still need to be explained.
1. Where Is God?
, Jesse — and the entire congregation of Annville — got them, but they certainly didn’t like them. As it turns out, God didn’t come to Annville, because God is missing.
Executive producer Seth Rogen confirmed on Talking Preacher that the overall storyline of Preacher as a show is three characters searching for God, so it appears that Tulip, Cassidy and Jesse’s road trip will be the main focus from here on out. I can’t help but wonder though: Where is God?
2. Is Everyone In Annville Dead?
The town of Annville was annihilated when Hell arrived on Earth. According to a news report, the entire town was wiped out and the possibilities of survivors is slim. However, I can’t help but wonder: What about Emily? After making such a brave (and eccentric) decision to kill Miles, she finally had her life back in order — has she just become a casualty of war?
It appears that everyone’s depression at the lack of God was pointless, because they were all killed anyway. We’re still holding out hope for you, Emily.
3. What Will Happen If The Cowboy Catches Jesse?
In the midst of the destruction and annihilation, the Cowboy arrived in the ruins of Annville. After killing Susan (poor Susan, she’s probably died more than any other character in the history of television), the Cowboy ominously muttered “preacher,” before we faded to black.
However, unbeknownst to him, Jesse is already away on his search for God so the Cowboy is seconds too late. This leaves me wondering if he will the spend the majority of the second season hunting Jesse. What happens if the two catch up? Jesse could perhaps uses Genesis to save himself — it appears to work on holy figures like DeBlanc and Fiore, as well as Fake God — so perhaps it’ll work on someone from Hell too. Either way, I can’t wait to find out!
Preacher has ridden off into the sunset, concluding its first season, . It’s going to be a long wait, but it’ll be worth it. So many questions!
