Reality TV Gets A Little Too Real In First ‘Nerve’ Trailer

Reality television and the lengths people are willing to go to for money and fame has become a staple of pop culture, for better or worse. Couple that with the internet, social media and live-streaming capabilities, and it seems like everybody is trying to get their 15 minutes of fame. The Lionsgate adaptation of Jeanne Ryan’s 2012 YA novel Nerve takes this conceit to heart. Vee (Emma Roberts) is a shy young woman who decides to participate in the online game Nerve, which challenges contestants to a broadcast game of Truth or Dare? with increasingly dangerous challenges in exchange for cash. But eventually the game becomes too high stakes and Vee is swept up on a life-or-death adventure alongside a mystery man named Ian (Dave Franco). Check out the first trailer for the movie:Nerve is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman — the duo behind Catfish, Paranormal Activity 3 and Paranormal Activity 4 — from a script adaptation by Jessica Sharzer. Two cool posters have also been released, featuring the film’s stars:

Nerve is a standalone book, so it’s unclear if the studio is hoping for this to be its next big YA franchise. Ryan released another unrelated novel called Charisma in 2015.
Lionsgate just moved Nerve from its original September release date — a date given instead to Lionsgate’s new horror flick The Woods — bringing it to theaters this summer on July 27.(Source: YouTube)
