Rogue One: A Star Wars Story may be the film fans most clambor for information on these days, but its still a risky venture on the part of Disney and Lucasfilm. As a spin-off film departing from the conventional Star Wars narrative and taking place before Star Wars: A New Hope, there is little room for innovation in the story’s time-period. Even with new designs for the Stormtroopers, there are those of us who wonder what new treats could be introduced to the Star Wars universe without presenting inconsistencies.
Fortunately, , from trailers to new characters to , seem to indicate the movie is likely to be nothing short of amazing. But there is still reason to wonder what Rogue One will add to the franchise. Well, we got our first taste of what they are capable of this week when a new ship, the U-Wing, was unveiled. Take a look at the pictures:
The reveal came during . Matt Martin, from the Lucasfilm Story Group, presented the new ship and revealed some cool details about it. Regarding the vehicle’s purpose, he said this:
“The U-Wing is a new ship in the Star Wars Universe. It’s a troop transport and gunship, so it’s there to bring in troops to heavy fire zones and get out as quickly as possible… The wings move depending on the situation and it’s there to both drop off troops and provide air support.”
When asked about its full name, Martin revealed it to be “Incom UT-60D.” He also revealed that the vehicle had actually already been revealed, albeit secretly, during the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim. It was right there in the first piece of concept art for the film. Check it out:
There you have it. Rogue One is giving us new elements in the staunchly established Star Wars universe. It’s also interesting to note that the filmmakers have contributed a ship specifically made for getting troops in and out of battlefields.
Granted, it’s the sort of detail we’ve seen before in the franchise, but new gadgets and vehicles are as exciting in Star Wars as they are in any new Bond film. And as for the design? It’s amazing. A ship streamlined to get out of tight spots faster than you can say “parsecs!”
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 14, 2016.
What do you think of the new ship? Are you excited for Rogue One?
I´m an avid movie fan whose favorite movie ever is Back to the Future. I´m the type of person that if I like a TV show, I´ll binge watch it, no matter how long or how hard the ride is. I love super heroes, in fact, I pride myself of being a comic book fan since long, long before the super hero movie craze got going.
